The Elder Oak Name: BlackVoidDeath Story: You are the Oaken King of all living trees, living for just over 1000 years you have been ruling over the tree ent kingdom for as long as anyone can remember. One day you decide to take a walk through one of your gardens, you are nearing the end of your walk but you overhear voices from the trees near you, and they dont sound familiar, goblins! You bash away the first green face that jumps out at you but many more follow! Spoiler: Screen-shot Epilogue: You manage to charge through the goblin crowd and get into safety, the goblins dont follow you, for they have already had a taste of what fighting one Ent is like, so there were no volunteers to see what fighting 100 Ents is like. ( If you want an explanation for where the loot comes from then: (Once you get taken inside and healed, you and your allies notice a number of items sticking out of your Bark, upon further inspection you deduct that these are some of the weapons that the Goblins were using, studying them may give you an advantage when fighting these monsters.)) I would love some feedback on this map, because I really like something about this map, its fun really fun imo (dont ask why) Its beatable, though I am yet to win Spoiler: Tips You need to be weary of the Goblin Shredders because they have Shredding Strike which can discard your Tough Bark. You need to keep Tough Bark because most of the goblin attacks are slashing or piercing attacks. The Goblin Shamans can buff their allies which could cause quite a few problems. A combination of Entangling Roots and Violent Spin is a great way of bypassing the Goblin Shredders. Mighty Tree Limb counts as a melee attack so it cannot be blocked my Missile Block and Reflect Missile but can be blocked by Weak Block and because Goblin Shredders dont have Weak Blocks, this is a good card to use on them. The Goblins respawn every 2 rounds. Take the Shredders (in particular) down to low HP (preferably 4) but dont kill them before the 2nd round, once the 3rd round starts, massacre them. Try to keep as far up as you can, because Violent Spin only affects the characters that are next to the "main tile". If Gary passes and you dont have a Violent Spin in hand, then pass too, because violent spin is very important to succeed, and you might draw it next round. O = Open D = Difficult
Made it a bit easier by reducing the grunts to 2 per group This seems much easier because I won on my 3rd try Spoiler: Win
I'm curious how you managed it - any stratigic tips to share? I played it maybe a half dozen times on full difficulty, before coming to the same conclusion as you and reducing the grunt counts. Even then, I still couldn't quite manage it after a half-dozen more attempts. It's definitely challenging, and I love how it showcases the strength of classicly "weak" monsters. This map! I like it!
Thanks! Well, some the strategy that I use are as follows: This is probably the most important, take the Shredders (in particular) down to low HP (preferably 4) but dont kill them before the 2nd round, once the 3rd round starts, massacre them. Try to keep as far up as you can, because violent spin only affects the characters that are next to the "main tile", I knew this would be an issue when I was making the map so created it to make the player move down instead of up. I could remake the map to make the player, litterally move down and thus using the violent spin most effectively, but then the board would look as realistic. If Gary passes and you dont have a violent spin in hand, then pass too, because violent spin is very important to succeed. Lastly, re-read my minor tips in the first post, they are also quite important, I will also copy these three in there ↑ Nice, cracked me up
I have followed just these three steps and won in one go, I think that version one is too hard but version two is too easy - could anyone suggest how to balance it out more? Spoiler: Win in one try
I just had some time to waste and played through version 2 again, and won on my first try again! I dont know if I am getting very lucky or something like that, but I think that if players cant beat this map (I would like some playtesting and comments if possible), and I have won 3/7 times on the easy maps then I think this is a good stage to submit (because then players need to work out how I did it), I will wait a few hours before submitting and hope for some feedback. Spoiler: Won again in one try
I've already played the first one, and died all 5 matches....those blocks made sure I could never kill a single shredder. Also, I may be remembering incorrectly, but I think I got lucky once and only had 1 shredder. (The bludgeon still kill me, along with reflecting my own damage)
I have pretty much given up on the first version, too hard IMO, try playing the second version and see how far you get.
Ah, there we go! Okay, I think I've got it now. That's a REALLY nice map. I like the strategy it encourages!
Once I get home, I'll give it a try. Btw, you're only the 2nd person I've downloaded a map from. I'm picky =P
I dont know, I cant have gotten lucky 3 games in a row, surely? I am starting to hesitate on posting this map to MM - it might be too easy. - I need some playtesting comments! Spoiler: I dont know if I am getting lucky or something but I beat this map a 3rd time in a row
just died first attempt. maybe I'm doing something wrong. should I not be using the projectile attacks? I tend to get hosed by Reflect more often than the shredders, who never bother me. Also, not drawing Tough Bark for the first 3 rounds definitely didn't help.
finally, my 3rd attempt, got lucky w/ 2 Bark in hand, and drew a good 2 or 3 VS at timely moments. didn't realize taking out the shamans could help so much!
