That's because the game was updated 3 hours after Peonprop listed his items. Updating causes changes to The Daily Deal items.
Well not to swap... it's based on when you first log in that day. If you first load the client after the reset but before the update you'll get one set in the Daily Deal, if it's after the update it'll be another set. The set won't change from one to the other though, as best as I can tell.
For people looking to screw Randi over get the best items I would suggest logging into a test server account before updates to check the contents. If you don't see anything you want wait until after the update to log in to your main account for a second helping.
Get a test server account now. Otherwise you'll have to play through the entire tutorial before you can see what's in the Daily Deal.
I kinda get it, but I'm still a bit confused about the timeline. The idea is that, if you "preview" a stock refresh on the test server and it's a dud, you can double-dip from the earlier stock instead after the update? But this only applies to the occasional game update, correct, not the daily resets?
Just the occasional update. Basically, once you log in, whatever the Daily Deal offers you, that's what you're gonna get for the day. Checking in on the test server lets you see if you like what's on offer before committing on prod.
Spear Of The Cozqui Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers Spear of the Cozqui is the best healing divine weapon at its token cost and it has 3 very solid attacks attached. Triple Heal is particularly useful for drawing out blocks, especially if you can catch a couple Defender's Blocks out of the deal. There's no doubt Spear of the Cozqui has great cards but do you want a healing priest? For most the answer is no. You cannot win the damage race with heals unless you are up against control wizards. It is better to use powerful buffs and draw spells to speed up your own damage clock, Impenetrable Nimbus to halt you opponent's clock, or vamp attacks to tack on damage while you "heal" yourself. I'm not saying that heals are unplayable but you need to think of them as backup rather than Plan A. I would hesitate to devote a priest's weapon slot to a healing weapon (with the exception of Healing Hand Mace of course but let's be honest, you are using it for the spicy 13 damage meatballs). Would not purchase. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers Generally, heals get better in singleplayer where mobs have weaker attacks. They still won't do as much as buffs but your buffs don't mean a thing if you're dead. That said, Spear of the Cozqui requires a major token meaning mobs in the modules you can use it in start hitting harder than you can heal yourself. If you are having trouble in the upper levels I would encourage you to explore new strategies. Healing will get you through the lower levels but that's it. Try out different items and class configurations, move you characters around differently, and if all else fails ask for help in the Adventure Discussion and Strategy section. Whatever you do, don't pick up Spear of the Cozqui expecting that the heals that got you through the lower levels will continue to work forever. Would not purchase. Substitutes Gray Blade (R) , Godtouched Spear (E) , Healing Hand Mace (E) Elphala's Healing Ring Sergeant's Helm Spitting Flame
Mindshrinker Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers Mind Worm is awful. It doesn't have an immediate effect on the board and possibly does nothing at all. Forcing a character to discard their second best card at the end of the turn just doesn't do a whole lot. Mind Worm does even less against wizards. They rarely have armor or blocks to stockpile and ranged attacks are the easiest to unload. It is most effective early on as the massive 8 range gives you something to do from across the map. Chances are you'll get a card out of the deal while both sides are still getting into position. Beyond that Mind Worm becomes block checking fodder and the occasional buff pusher off-er. Would not purchase. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers Mind Worm is pointless against mobs with large shared hands and bosses that draw extra cards. That one card is a drop in the bucket. If you're trying to use it as armor removal you're out of luck too. The AI seems to prioritize armor so you're never going to catch anything naked. There might be some secret use I'm missing but I doubt it. Would not purchase. Substitutes Greyworm Mace (E) Flax's Thirsty Vial- Great vamp attack staple. Hawlic's Armor Staff Of Immolation- Don't get suckered by the shiny Ember Bursts on top. There's a bunch of crappy short range cone attacks underneath.
Wenham's Leather Coif Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers Depending on your build, your mileage with Sprint, Team! will vary. If your other 2 characters are heavy hitting melee characters that can take advantage or an early rush the this helmet is for you. If you've got a support priest or a wizard then at best you're sending one character in to duke it out in a high noon wild west style showdown. This is not only fair, and no one wants to play fair, but sometimes that character doesn't have enough attacks to send in. In that case, you've got a dead card for the turn that only gets worse as the match progresses. Leather Harness is garbage but Barge is the one "Bash" card that I like. The times you need to send an enemy away you get 2 squares to work with and you can even send them towards the open arms of your other characters. When all you need is another attack you can still cash Barge in for 5 damage while keeping the recipient in an adjacent square for further punishment. If you're desperate you can use it as a painful pseudo Telekinesis on your own characters. If you want a more defensive Sprint, Team! helmet you will want the Dodge on Forrtescue's Feathered Cap. Would purchase if have a team that can make full use of Sprint, Team! but anything less than 3 warriors/vamp priests is a little too unreliable. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers There isn't really any way to take advantage of Sprint, Team!. You're either going to be vastly outnumbered or facing down an armed to the teeth badass dragon of some sort that eats sprinting chumps for breakfast. Find a tokenless helm that's acceptable and spend that token elsewhere. Helmets do not help your characters accomplish anything that other item slots will do better for the most part. Would not purchase. Substitutes Major's Helmet (E) , Mathiam's Helmet (E) , Helm Of Alacrity (R) Cherry Shield Dancer's Dagger Flaming Sword- Not enough better than Blazing Shortsword to be worth the tokens.
Bleneth's Frenzy Charm Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers Not much to say here. This is an instant buy for buff priests in melee parties. There are very few tokenless divine items worth playing and even fewer with good buffs. I wouldn't use smaller buffs like Mass Frenzy for wizard parties but they are great if you have at least one other melee character. Highly recommend purchasing Bleneth's Frenzy Charm. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers Strong cards? Check. Low token cost? Check. All of my melee farming parties look to cram as many Mass Frenzies as possible on the buff priest. Shuddering Relic does an admirable job but getting 2 extra buffs that stack on top and not having to deal with Vulnerable is well worth becoming a disciple of Bleneth. While it is less of a buy in singleplayer due to how dominating wizard parties are and Shuddering Relic being such a good substitute, anything that says Bleneth on it is a solid pick up. Substitutes Shuddering Relic (R) Club Of Wrath Colossal Hammer- Exact same damage as Infused Greatclub so all that major token gets you is a copy of Barge. Japper's Energy Boots- Strong but the legendary options for Energizing Move are all much better.
Ulrin's Scuttling Socks Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers Fly is necessary for a few leagues. However, there is no reason to use short range Leaps when you can add Fly to all your movements by having Flight Aura in hand. Sure, you get to reface after you move behind an enemy but if they can reface by attacking you there was little reason to get behind them in the first place. Would not purchase. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers There are a few instances that you'll want the Fly effect on your movements but no module requires Fly to complete and this really only applies to melee characters. In addition, Ulrin's Scuttling Socks can only be used in higher levels due to the major token requirement. Would not purchase. Substitutes Lizard Hide Boots (E) , Winged Track Shoes (U) Firehide Robes- A must for any speed farming pyromaniac. Untrained Footwork Weighty Wand
I just wanna say thanks for writing these up all the time, peonprop. It's always interesting to read the why's of how you value items.
Barnum's Burning Bauble Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers While Barnum's Burning Bauble isn't a bad item it is worse than other legendary options. Most burning decks do not actively want Firestorm. It is fine to have a couple as finishers but you are likely to already have a few copies from Firehide Robes and Azgul's Orb. If you're looking to build a Firestorm wizard, something I haven't seen since the range nerf, then you will want double Firestorm items instead. Look for items that only have Flame Jet and/or Glob Of Flame. Would not purchase. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers Welcome to Singleplayerland, where up is down, black is white, and the countryside is ablaze from all the Firestormin. If you are just starting out with your Firestorm farming party you will basically want any old Firestorm item you can get your grubby mitts on. Barnum's Burning Bauble is better than most single Firestorm items but it is also way more expensive. There are plenty of rares and epics to choose from, with Magma Scepter being the cream of the crop. I would rather pick up 5 or more mediocre Firestorm items than 1 slightly better legendary. If you do want to splurge a little, hold out for Azgul's Orb, Brin's Storm Locket, and Chartwell's Ring. Would not purchase. Substitutes None Cudgel Of Healing Light Staff Of The Fire God- One of only two items with Fireball and the one you want for a dedicated burning wizard. I would personally use an Ember Burst staff instead to avoid the Magma Sprays but Fireball is ridiculously good. Weighty Wand If you don't like these items don't log in yet. Wait until after the update for a fresh set. Edit: Didn't get the stock refresh to work. Anyone have better luck?
Hand Of Melvelous Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers One of 3 acceptable divine items for a vamp priest. Wuuna's Vampiric Shroud and Flax's Thirsty Vial are epics that do slightly more damage but have a range 1 Enervating Touch. Glasod's Dark Skull does slightly more damage and has all ranged attacks but costs a minor token. Between Vampire's Blade and the tokenless divine items you will usually have a couple of leftover tokens to play with so the token discount from Hand of Melvelous isn't as helpful. That said, all 3 items are so similar that all you should be looking to do is get any combination of the 3 as soon as possible. If you're strapped for gold and don't mind waiting, I would look to get the epics. If you already have enough vamp items there really isn't a reason to "upgrade" with another Hand of Melvelous. Would purchase if you've got the gold, need another vamp item, and don't want to wait. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers Raise your Hand of Melvelous if you didn't switch out an item immediately for it as soon as it dropped. For all those with their hands raised...wait, do you smell that? I'm getting a hint of pants on fire. There are a ton of crappy tokenless divine items and the odds of getting 3 great ones in your first playthrough are astronomically low. While having vamp attacks is great it also isn't necessary. If you're careful you can slog the lower levels with just about anything on your priest. Once you have access to tokens, buffs are the way to go. The only reasons to pick up Hand of Melvelous are if you want to make a vamp priest or you want to even out the now one handed Melvelous. Would not purchase. Substitutes Flax's Thirsty Vial (E), Wuuna's Vampiric Shroud (E) Old Saint's Armor Savage Plates Weighty Wand
I'd like to briefly talk about Svage Plates This is the only non-legendary divine armor coming with Mass Frenzy on it. Not only that, Savage Curse can be a terrific tool at your disposal, if you know how to properly use it to your advantage. This is a great armor to rig your buff/support priest with, especially for a party including (at least) a wizard.
Absolem's Leather Shoes Peon's Prescription for Prodigious Multiplayers Team Run's reign of terror is officially over. It is no longer so dominating that it overshadows other options anymore. Many people are moving the freed up token to other slots so a good tokenless pair of boots is in high demand. Well Absolem's Leather Shoes and good do not belong in the same sentence. Leather Harness is pitiful when it comes to damage prevention so you should only be looking at it to pair with triggered secondary effect armors, the only great one being Barbed Platemail. The biggest problem with this is that Barbed Platemail only comes on heavy and divine armors and you only get one copy to work with. Unlike Enchanted Harness, Leather Harness does not provide much protection by itself or even combined with other armors so holding it in hand while you wait for that single copy is often not the correct play. Sure, you could load your deck with Spiked Mail and Holy Armor but that presents it's own problems, namely you're forced to play crappy cards like Spiked Mail and Holy Armor. So to sum up, best case scenario Leather Harness prevents around 1 damage per hit and helps trigger a Barbed Platemail. Worst case, you've got a Leather Harness and two good cards in hand and you will need to ditch something at the end of the turn. Well let me decide for you, don't play Leather Harness. Would not purchase. Peon's Perspective for Penny-Pinching Singleplayers I could maybe see playing Absolem's Leather Shoes with Spiked Tlahuiztli to deal some extra damage to melee mobs. Anything else and you're taking away a token that should be going towards weapons or buffs instead. There are just so many better ways to spend your gold when you consider how often you won't have both Leather Harness and Barbed Platemail in hand. Would not purchase. Substitutes Absolem's Crocs, Absolem's Platform Shoes, Absolem's Pleather Shoes Grey Charm Mad Eskin's Pin- Much worse than Ring Of Appropriation. Untouchable Plate
Bloody Stoutness Previously Reviewed Bullseye Shield Mindsplinter Staff- Infused Greatclub for wizards. Overloaded Staff is similar for people just wanting the high damage spells. Sharp Flames
