Large-sized cones like Cone Of Cold ignore Smoke Bomb and still have the full area of effect. This always surprises people in multiplayer and on narrow maps like the crypt maps can make for an effective turtle strategy. Any opinions on this - does this 'feel right'?
Yes, it does. Cones don't care about line of sight because they always affect the same area. It's like arguing that a grenade's AoE should be blocked by a smoke screen.
It feels right to me since you are not selecting a specific target, just sending out a wide blast of cold through the smoke. Also it's good balance that some magic can get by Wall Of Illusion and Smoke Bomb
I see absolutely no reason why it shouldn't as people already pointed out smoke has no reason to block a aoe ability only where you can target it.
Well, you do have to step away from "reality" and into game mechanics. After all, if we wanted realism from our cones, then hitting a player would line-of-sight block the tiles behind him from being hit as well. That said, I personally agree that only a physical block should stop a cone, not a bunch of steam. If anything were changed, it would be awesome if the fog were combustible, making any fire spell hit everything in the area (and clear the fog).
Only if that character was very large and immovable, I think. I presume that the AoE spells land at the target point then expand outward in a sphere, like normal god-fearing explosions, not like the TDX circles we see in popular entertainment SFX. Yes, I'm looking at you, Star Trek and your buddy Star Wars...
@xienwolf You're assuming that the character fills the entire tile. If the character was smallish relative to the tile it's reasonable that the cone would strike the tile beyond him as well. But like you said, adding realism like that wouldn't really add anything to the game.
