Painful (especially for us long-time players), but hopefully this week will bring plenty of new players (and cash) to the game. I'm sure BM are doing everything they can ATM to boost capacity.
I've been replying to threads on the Steam forums. Not sure I have access to post announcements. Hopefully Jon or Farbs wake up on the early side.
This is definitely a good idea. The game is basically unplayable right now (game frequently freezing & 30+ minute queue times) and the negative reviews are beginning to roll in because of it.
I was reading the reviews on the Steam page and they're almost all overwhelmingly positive and everyone really loves the game... until the Queue problems started. It seems as if 99% of complaints are about the queue, and rightfully so. Cardhunter is an amazing game and one of the best ever made, and it really would be a terrible shame if peoples' views of it were colored by the server overload problems. This is a grand opportunity to really enter the collective gaming consciousness and for it to be upended by simple server issues sounds tragic, to be honest. Something really has to be done QUICKLY to stem the tide. Maybe even shut it down to new players until something is sorted out, and then issue some kind of message about "technical difficulties" and resume when it is fixed?
Have to agree with the above posts. This is a glorious opportunity to raise the population and it can very quickly disappear if the queue/lag isn't solved quickly. I admit to historically being puzzled at the way CH's publicity has been handled (which may just be my own lack of perspective or understanding) and that makes me uneasy as to how this situation will pan out.
Yes, the recent reviews are negative just cause of the queue/ unplayable/server problem, guess it's feeling like Sim City all over again unfortunate. @ Flaxative imo you should try to phone them, i do not think they will get angry if you wake them, to warn that CH did complete broken and this super important time...
Wouldn't it be possible to have more than one channel at the server, like some MMOs? It could help. I just got queued at 1700+ , almost half an hour of waiting. :/ That aside, it's great to see so much interest in the game. Really enjoying it. Go BM!
I'm very happy there are queues for Card Hunter (means a LOT of people wanna play it) but it could also spell doom since if people can't ever play the game they'll start posting negative reviews which we don't want :<
Wow.... #2000 queued!! 29 minute wait! Great to see the extra traffic to the game from Steam. Starting to get some pretty bad reviews though due to the wait times. Hope you guys can bring some more server bandwidth online to handle it!
They are. Jon has to make the call to upgrade their servers. I sent a message off to Farbs to contact Jon as the first week reviews are HUGELY important. They really need to fix this ASAP. Bad reviews early on snowball pretty quickly and will last almost forever as people don't usually update their reviews.
Yeah when I was saw the queue I have to admit I was surprised, but I was not worried about it personally, knowing who's working on the game and it's only a matter of time before it's more manageable. In the mean time I just load up a few youtube videos, or make some food. Just urge some of those that are a bit agitated to be a little more on the patient side. Unfortunately I feel like it'll turn some of the more impatient steam people off of this, but I think the majority of us that are on the forums are a bit more mature and understand that it's being worked on. Anyways I'll be honest and sayI expected a good number of players to come from the Steam release, but certainly not this many. On a side note maybe people will be less likely to d/c now that there's a 30min wait time . Absolutely love the new co-op loot fairy rewards. And think it's hilarious when I read the world chat with people "looking for Level 3 priests", if only Lenbear was around for the countless amout of people to 3v3 D:
Eek, 32 minute wait for me...and I was just going to zip on and send my alt through the current loot fairy dungeon. I had planned to play a whole bunch later tonight, tackling the new adventures, and now I'm not sure how that will go. I usually lose my connection a couple of times during a session, and this extra wait will be both frustrating and make me lose battles due to timing out. Definitely hoping this is a problem that resolves itself soon.
My god.... 40 minute wait when logging in. This used to be my quick log in and kill $#!T game... Is there an eta on the server upgrade? There have also been massive lag times when playing cards. Is this related to server load as well?
Yes. The server is struggling to handle all the players at the same time. The game is built in such a way that every action has to be separately handled by the server and there's information going back and forth almost every click of the mouse (as with every other online-refereed game).
Ok, (hopefully brief) downtime while we address these issues. http://forums.cardhunter.com/threads/please-hold-for-server-upgrade.7486/
