Or "Sue." Don't forget that Clyde was replaced with Sue in the Ms. Pac-Man versions. . . . Okay, yeah, awesome map. So did you hack the game so you can run off one edge and reappear at the other? (I know, I know, you can't.)
Dammit Phaselock, I am just barely holding myself back from adding a custom scenario feature. Why would you tempt me like this?
lol, I held back I had so many ideas since the Spartans, didn't know which to pick. This is a great idea...but probably a pain in the ass to code. Make a pvp map that loops the edges. So if you threw a linear spell that went off the board edges, it would bite you in the arse. Or do a literal backstab. or or or.... (words fail me) =)
OKAY I HAVE DONE IT I added a little experimental feature. For now (as of next build) you can type "customscenario" in the console, pick any .brd file, and it'll create a casual match with that board and wait for someone to join. It's probably best to do this from the multiplayer lobby. There's still a heap of work left to do on this. It needs a UI, and the ability to select monster groups (instead of just playing MP parties against each other), specifying victory star counts and time limits and audio tags... but it's getting there. I'm pretty sure I've done the complicated bit, now I just need to work through all the remaining slog. Oh, and a heads-up, we might limit custom scenario match creation to club members at some point. So, anyone can join a game but only club members can create. It's a free-for-all right now though. Enjoy!
AWESOME ! Just tested in build 2.10, console gave me an awesome answer.... > customscenario CHEAT: Unknown command
I love the idea of custom map making ...now that it is mentioned by Farbs. However looking at the current maps, I doubt random level making frenzy could be satishfied, unless it involves somekind of scripting, for uber flexibility. But for those simple minded folks out there, GO FOR IT!
There won't be any scripting unfortunately, however I can imagine a creative GM taking adventurers through a multi-battle campaign. I can also imagine dedicated map and scenario builders creating "modules" by building themed scenario sets, ready for GMs to pick up and play. Oh, also, in the next incarnation this will allow the GM and/or player to play as monsters. Want to command a zombies horde? Okay. Want to see how many kobolds Greenfang can melt in one match? Go for it. Want to re-enact every battle in Lord of the Rings? You can probably do that. Before the AI was ready we often played party vs monsters, and it was a whole lot of fun. I'm really excited to have this back in the game again.
Sounds good, the idea behind wanting/needing scripting, was to random monsters starting places and various stuff like that, to add some replay ability, instead of relying on the cards dealt for that. One thing as an examle to add with scripting, could be various chains, like you have to kill the summoners, before you could harm(and kill) the summoned creature ...a more traditional approach, mostly known from MMORPGs, but some GMs have conjured up tasks/obstacles like these in pen and paper RPGs as well. On the other hand I have been known to be a very devious GM with a bag full of tricky surprises, with a little emphasis on detective work needed from the players. ...I just love when a plan comes together and the players fall into the trap, only to discover too late ...it's fight or die ...oh the sweet panic, muahaha (evil laugh in text).
Good news ! Just tested customscenario in build 2.15. IT WORKS ! Players in lobby join custom game - works ! Audio - works ! Cards - works ! Spawn point - works ! Stars awarded after kill - works ! Stars awarded after standing in victory terrain - works ! Maximum stars win the game - works ! Victory squares do not show the usual yellow overlay. Someone tell me how to get that in. And I think I didn't put markers. Otherwise, I think I have a custom map good to go ! Thanks to Icebird and PorridgeGolem who helped me test. Whee ! edit: Yes, got the doodad for the victory terrain !
Nice, I actually just finished Melvins custom adventure, had to replay 1 time in 2nd map... it does have random start places.
