Never mind, that plan did not work.....at all. It was fool's gold. Too easy to move. Just too easy to move.
I enjoy current set of maps very much, especially Kitchen (albeit I agree it may be even better when slightly (1 row per north and south side) enlarged). There is only one exception, Batfords's Parlor. I can't pin down what is exactly wrong or how to fix it, but matches there are rather predictable and uninteresting. On other maps I usually see dynamic, fluid and interesting games, which I approve.
The huge problem with Parlor is the lack of pathing-options. You can basically: stay in your spawning corner (bad) go east to the VS go west where the table is and that's it. Couple that with the fact the map is relatively small. This leads to very uninteresting matches, as you can't really maneuver in order to, say, avoid engagement or flanking your opponent The only, slightly interesting feature allowing for some limited positioning game would be the little walls towards the non-middle of the map. You can use those as cover, or to avoid being flanked by aggressive enemies. But that's basically all there's to it. Edit: On a second though, not mentioning the round table as an interesting feature would be a discredit to the map's author. So there's that too
I didn't realize the table was impassable terrain, which contributed to me losing a match there. (I also didn't play particularly well that game, but the table being difficult, rather than impassable, might have helped me overcome my own stupidity) EDIT: the maps are a little cramped, but I kind of like them at the moment. Although seeing 3x warrior teams make me roll my eyes a little.
I really like the new maps! Congratulations Flax. The estetic of the maps are very pretty and they are very balanced for all classes, i managed to get to 1750+ with different teams: 2 wizards, 1 priest 2 warriors, 1 priest 1 warrior, 1 priest and 1 wizard. So the maps are good for all classes.
I forgot to mention! Aesthetically the maps look very good, very well put together. The look of maps is great.
After further play on the maps, I've realized the maps are not the issue for me; the issue is movement. I could go off on another long diatribe as to why it's way too easy to move in this game, but I'll save it. It's likely to lead to nothing for any change in the game. But it's way too easy to move in this game, compared to 'anti-movement' countermeasures. So, after further review, the maps are good. I've enjoyed them a lot more, typically before my 15th or 20th match against 2 elf warriors and 1 human priest. Then the game just gets tiring. I think I might have more kills on my team members than opponents do at this point. It's just not worth it. Perhaps the parlor could be opened up a little, but I think it's okay. Good job.
No problem. They do nothing to stop 85% of everyone from playing the exact same build, however. It's like playing the same level of a game over and over and over, with no feasible way to win....but I suppose that's a subjective problem for whiny wizards like myself that will never be solved. Back to map discussion, I suppose.
