    Ok just did some math:
    Option one: Each item has a 25% chance of upgrading, and if it upgrades it can upgrade again with a 25% chance until it is a legendary.
    The average gold if all items are sold from 5th place league reward is: 65.0625
    Option two: Each item has a 20% chance of upgrading, and likewise can keep upgrading at 20% chances.
    The average gold if all items are sold from 5th place league reward is: 52.416

    I will suggest that the first option is likely due to this quote:
    Common+
    3/4 1
    3/16 2
    3/64 5
    3/256 20
    1/256 100

    3/4 + 3/8 + 15/64 + 15/64 + 25/64 = 1 63/64 (1.984375)

    Rare+
    3/4 5
    3/16 20
    1/16 100

    15/4 + 15/4 + 25/4 = 13 3/4 (13.75)

    12 commons+: 23.8125
    3 rares+: 41.25
    5th place league reward: 65.0625

    Alternatively:
    Common+
    (Chance, value)
    4/5 1
    4/25 2
    4/125 5
    4/625 20
    1/625 100

    4/5 + 8/25 + 4/25 + 16/125 + 4/25 = 1 71/125 (1.568)

    Rare+
    4/5 5
    4/25 20
    1/25 100

    4 + 16/5 + 4 = 11 1/5 (11.2)

    12 commons+: 18.816
    3 rares+: 33.6
    5th place league reward: 52.416

    I only really play leagues because I don't have time to invest in leagues + loot fairy + MP in a single day. The returns on league and LF are higher than MP for time invested.

    I roll 1500+ players all the time in league. They beat me too, especially in constructed leagues. But leagues are a great leveller. And they give great loot, most of the time one win in a league nets a purple chest.

    Because I'm opening 2-3 purple league chests most days, I have 26 CM legendaries already, including two of the ever-popular Crazy Sal's Creepers and Final Swords. I barely buy anything but CM legendaries and epics from the shops, I pretty much have ample supplies of earlier legendaries, and max usable of many, because of those league chests.

    So that's it. I'm an average player, no reason you can't do it too.

    A strange game league system. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

    Nice quote. I don't think Rohndil actually believes people shouldn't play leagues.

    Iirc, upgrade percentages are not linear.

    From the time I opened 10,000 AotA chests:
    Common = 71.63%
    Uncommon = 21.75%
    Rare = 5.77%
    Epic = 0.72%
    Legendary = 0.13%

    So a Common+ chest slot can be expected to be worth 1.7138 gold.

    I'm less confident of my math here, but I think these are the percentages for Rare+ slots:
    Rare = 87.16%
    Epic = 10.88%
    Legendary = 1.96%

    So a Rare+ slot can be expected to be worth 8.494 gold. That makes 5th place in a league worth 46.0476 gold, which fits my own perception of losing money if I can't win a game.

    You cannot buy items for the price they are sold. So that 1.96% of dropping a legend that would cost you 2500 gold had you purchased it, is worth more than the 100 gold you would get from selling it. Assuming you have little to no items then you are always coming out ahead, even if you are 5th place in league.

    And what if you have about 80% of legendary? in that case a random legendary is worth about 2500X20% + 100X80% :) that is 500+80 an average of 580....that can be turned in 250+90 for a total of 340 if you own about 90% of legendary :)

    That wasn't what I thought when I read the post, I first thought that this isn't in either of the achievement threads (one for item completion and one for general achievements) so I wondered why was this being posted. Which I then looked above and read the two posts above and finally understood what the response was and thought that it still doesn't belong in this thread.
    Regardless, I still think it doesn't belong in this thread.
    EDIT: I had to reread two posts to understand the reason for the post. Posts that are on topic wouldn't make me reread posts.

    (League) chest reward math, jelly and such are interesting subjects, but let's try to stay on topic.

    I'm not going to delete any posts, since I believe discussions should stay organic and fluctuating, but I urge everyone to stop and think about their post content and contribution before hitting the "Post Reply" button.

    Having a 98% mean that there is only 2500X2% + 100X98%... so 50 + 98= 148 average value for a random legendary... that is still more than 100 :) It is almost safe to assume that a random Leg is worth 200 for almost all player.
