Keep in mind, that might have simply been someone messing around with the tracker w/o a clue about what he was doing. Not that I'm saying he shouldn't have banned the IP. Given the current state of affairs (and the tracker is targeted at a niche audience only), a temp IP ban is the more convenient solution to this kind of issues.
Why would anyone clueless keep on setting the buttons like that for that long? The pattern seems much too purposeful for that. I vote trolling, permaban the whole submask . What's with all this hippy love and understanding stuff, law and order and hobnailed boots, raus raus!
I know I know. But I'm also aware some people don't always take the time to read what's written on a web page. Especially when all of your attention is grabbed by fancy buttons which are screaming CLICK MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE All I'm saying is that it's not entirely unreasonable that somebody might have been experimenting with those buttons without realizing what was really happening. Anyways, that doesn't change the fact trouble-makers (intentional or not) should be handled accordingly. I'm still of the idea editing the tracker should only be available to white-listed users (i.e. via a shared password or similarly simple access control system), but I guess an IP ban is a more convenient way of dealing with unwanted guests until stricter measures are required.
It has been set twice to the adventure of the day before, that does sound like intentional troublemaking. A whitelist might work as long as the audience stays relatively small, but to be inclusive it has to be super easy, which defeats the whole purpose. I'd vote for an IP ban just for editing.
The page has always worked fine with just a very few bans ever needed. It will continue to work. Most people are actually nice. This might be a surprise to many .
We'll keep an eye on things. The latest misreports were the first thing that really looked like trolling, and the IP responsible has just been blocked from everything on my server (yay!). Maybe the perpetrator(s) will continue their foul work, maybe not.
