How the heck do I turn without moving?

I see NPC pieces doing this all the time, but I'm betting there's a very simple command or something I'm missing. Could someone help me out here?

 

Play a movement card (like Walk or Run) and then just click the square you are already standing in as your destination. You will then be able to choose whatever facing you want.

It's really easy to miss, I know I did it at first

The biggest problem is that you have to click on the actual square below the character, clicking the character base won't work like you might expect. Grumble grumble...
