If you haven't enough movement to reach the VS on round 1 wait until round 2 to cross the blocking terrain. Map 2: The main objective is to get your runner onto the VS. The other 2 may join the runner or harass the hives. You have at least 5 rounds to kill unless you can kill everything faster. Map 3: The runner is the only one who needs to venture downrange. Keep the other 2 hidden.
