Hi. I'm at level 9 (half way there...) with my original party of all humans, and I wanted to try playing the campaign with some elves and dwarves. Can you ever hire on new party members that start higher than level 1? I don't want to spend the gold on a bunch of level 1s if I can get higher starting level party members by pressing onward a little further.
Starting at about level 13ish (I think), a second tavern opens up, with party members at level 10 if you're willing to pony up 100gold per.
Yoinks. That is a lot of gold. Getting to level 10 takes a while, though. Math time! Code: 100g = 20p (pizza) $10 = 330p 20p x 6 (3 classes of dwarf, 3 of elves) = 120p 120p / 330p = 36% roughly (0.3636363636...) 36% of 10 is $3.60 for 6x L10 party members, or $0.60 each. Time to get 3 party members to L10 seems to be somewhere on the order of 24 adventures, with say 3 encounters each. Lets say each encounter takes 20 minutes to be generous and account for any retries. Code: 24 x 3 = 72 encounters 72 x 20 = 1440 minutes 1440 / 60 = 24 hours @_@ Weird how that worked out! So you could either spend 24 hours of your life leveling a group of 3 to 10, or $1.80. So really, 100g per new L10 character is not a steep asking price unless your time is worth less than $1.80 / 24 hours
If you do all three at once, and only send them into modules two levels above them, it will only take 9 adventures, so about 9 hours. Actually, let's pick specific adventures: Lair of the Trog Wizard: 2 battles Dungeon of the Lizard Priest: 3 Slub Gut's Sanctum: 2 Diamonds of the Kobolds: 3 Beneath the Frozen Earth: 3 Compass of Xorr: 3 Gladiatorial Arena Qualifiers: 3 Viscous Tombs or Cockroaches: 3 Pools of Slime: 3 = 25 total battles, so about 8.5 hours
