I've named all of my characters with the random generator. Most of the time I stop on something that sounds vaguely thematic. Other times I'm offered a "Legbornbornborn" and just roll with it because great-grandson legacy of legs.
My (starter) dwarf wizard I named "Napolean", for obvious reasons. Generally though, I go with simple names that are indicative of the class/race, just so I can keep them straight. My female dwarf warrior is "Mashie" and the male is "Hacker". Not very evocative, I know.
When we get Rogues, I'm going with Gemmington Steale. Ideally he'd be a halfling or Gnome or some such, but that's probably hoping too much.
For years now I am writing on my own world with different Regions, Races, Religions etc. I try to invent my own names for history relevant characters. In this world is an elven like race with different Houses. One of those Houses is the House of Avalae. Having only elves in my party I use those names. Every member in the House of Avalae has three names from which the third name is either "Avalis" (for males) or "Avali" (for females). Copyright by me
I'm not very imaginative with names. I've got a small set of made up names that I usually use for most games I play. I was using that usual set of names when I first started in Card Hunter, but when I hired my second party of characters I found that I'd run out of suitable names. (Not all names are suitable for all characters.) So I decided to not use my usual name set and instead named all my characters after famous physicists. That's what I'm using currently but I'm sometimes tempted to switch to a using the names of Australian politicians instead, partially so that I've got more female names to choose from. (I only know a few famous female physicists.)
I was beginning to think I'd never find another person who read Steven Brust. It's a shame barstools aren't a weapon type, or I'd totally make that one teckla whatshisname.. Mica? Now I wish I'd thought of making my party the Phoenix Guards, or Vlad's little team of asassins + Morolan.
I had a multiplayer match against a 3 elf wizard team named Twin A/Twin B/Twin C. the conversation in chat went something like: Me: If they are three twins, wouldn't that make them triplets? Opponent:.........I've made a huge mistake.
I ran into someone playing a team of elven warriors named after the Powerpuff Girls yesterday. That was pleasing.
Once upon a time, when I was a youngster, played a character named Chasstity Iron Belt for the laughs. ... yes, adolescent mind is the dirtyest.
I don't generally have much trouble coming up with names but I still sometimes take a look at what the random generator suggests. And sometimes it's just silly enough that I have to keep it. Like just now I was recruiting additional heroes to do quests with and - well, now I have a Elf Wizard named Bornborn.
I once ran a party of three characters called Snapdragon, Cracklekin, and Popinjay. My human fighter is named Jack because I'm using the Samurai costume for him. Though of course my samurai isn't as awesome as Samurai Jack, because that would hardly be fair. My human cleric is named Sunshine because I'm using the costume of the terrifying undead guy with the scythe, and the incongruity amuses me. For additional amusement value, for a while I had him paired with normal-looking people with over-the-top evil names like Vaxos the Souleater. I once tried a party with two human clerics - this was back before I had any minis other than the basic ones, so they were both the woman in yellow, one of them palette-swapped to blue. So naturally I called the one with the blue palette-swap Sub-Zero. I suppose I should have called the yellow one Scorpion to match, but at the time I thought it might be taking it too far. Of course, it's also a pity that they were clerics...if they'd been wizards I could have gone totally loopy with this and actually outiftted Sub-Zero with cold encumber effects and Scorpion with Winds of War. That would have been awesome.
I tend to stick with comedy show names: Charlie Mac Dennis Frank Green Man Night Man Oh Oh Oh Master of Karate And Friendship For Everyone Day Man Charlie Murphy Tyrone Biggums Ashy Larry
