Aloyzo's Arsenal Official SUBMISSION Discussion Thread

  1. I would also....I have fun with my melee mage.

I really wanted to use Bad Medicine for this event, but it wasn't in the item creator, so i assumed it was off limits for some reason since it got removed in the old days.

I also wanted to make an acid mage item, but that felt selfish since I use one a good bit in MP.

I played it safe for my first entry and made a massive chop item...called the Quarter Pound Chopper ( with cheese )

Maybe I should have submitted the Larchwood Staff of the Magus again....but I like the Neuralyzer more.

I tried double wielding staff of burning ice, but these 2 cone of colds are really bad for me, still it might work if you are better at the positioning game that I am.

While typing this, I realized, it could be nice to have pretty little empty circle icon to display tokenlessness. Hm. On that note, I'll just use a zero (0) to achieve the effect in a simple manner. Also, for this post, I'll abbreviate all my rarities, C U R E L.

    Idea for Burning Fingers:
    • Smoke Bomb x2; Burning Fingers; 13 (minortoken) C
    • Smoke Bomb; Burning Fingers x2; 8 0 U
Lol, now with gulo gulo's Epic item, Smoke On The Water, one could still get a *lot* of Smoke Bomb and use tokens on robes, boots, and skills, lol. (Of course, that staff is funniest alongside a suite of Firestorm arcane items. Two reasons why. So, so funny.)

Otherwise, some cards off the top of my head I'd like to see better itemized:
This post concentrates on Forward Thinking. I believe I've only ever seen one person besides myself run this card, and that was CT5 with a peasant party in ranked matches. It's possible I've seen a second; ontop that, opps have literally asked me during battle about the weirdness of my running it due to unplayable items.

In this AA, there's the idea to go FT x2, and that'd be cool to get, even if it's tripled up with Slowed (15 (minortoken) U). Also, I know there's an attempt to group it with Inspirational Thinking (super cycler) and Fumble (slightly anti-synergistic (thus probably AA-safer) but still a cycler) -- ha ha, that item might as well be called "Exercise Tricycle" lol -- (18 (majortoken) C); but in case that doesn't fly sit well, maybe something else...

    "Pushing Forward"
What non-Push Human cards could go with FT?
    • Forward Thinking; Parry x2; 15 (minortoken) C - would probably never, ever, ever get through
    • Forward Thinking; Parry; Subtle Parry; 13 (minortoken) R
    • Forward Thinking; Subtle Parry x2; 11 (minortoken) E - "Subtle Thinker" $F^ J (just the name, plus the lower-scale (minortoken), might actually help this one work, ha ha - really, I'm starting to like this one as time passes during my post-writing here, hmmmm)
~ but what else that isn't such an Obvious cycler?

Last general idea: how to get FT realistically tokenless?
    • Forward Thinking; Shuffle x2; 7 0 C - but this goes back to bad itemization, other than the tokenless aspect $:^ \
    • Forward Thinking; Walk; Slowed; 7 0 C - maybe better than Shuffle x2? still rather meh
~ what else could lower that level 9 FT to level 8 or below and still be playable -- and preferably not be a cycler?

In other news, both 21 (majortoken) E
    lol $E^ D

My submission seems to have attracted a healthy number of likes.

In the interest of good sportsmanship, I should point out that my entry uses the same cards as @j3st3ri 's entry in AA#2. He has kindly said that I can keep my submission, so all credit to him for having the same idea several months before I did. I hope that won't invalidate the entry (as it's being submitted to allow better use of Quick Reactions, rather than as a re-submission).

He has also warned that Quick Reactions currently appears only on helmets. I didn't realise that that was the case, but he's right. It seems unduly restrictive (Quick Reactions doesn't pair well with any low-level armor cards), but I don't want to chance it if it's clearly inadmissible. What does anyone else think?

It's only natural that with 3-card items in particular, there's going to be some overlap eventually, especially given slot restrictions. During a previous contest, I noticed that someone else had - by chance - submitted an unused idea I'd had for the same contest, just a few posts after mine. It happens. :p

Your item is a nice flavour win, even if Quick Reactions isn't a block card per se. I'd say it's one of the more risky cases of dabbling, but the point of that contest goal is to reintroduce an item that's unplayable at the moment, and this is a great way to make that happen for all of those cards. ;)

  7. Are their any rules on editing your entry before the end date? or once you hit submit it's a done deal?

It's probably best to delete and re-post if you change more than the name. People who "liked" the old item might not like the new one, and many (me, for instance) don't check older posts for changes.

Flaxative does not look at the entries before the time limit is done, so deleting and reposting is not a problem.

Doesnt he mention in the video how he had one favorite on his mind for days, but then, as the deadline drew closer, changed his mind?

I can try to find it if you like, but the thing is, Flaxative originally said it's best to delete and repost because he might not notice if someone edits, then after the first or second or so month, he said just go ahead and edit b/c from then on he'd only look at them all at the same time at the end of the contest.

Seeing that shifty stab seems inadequately low valued for priests, i think one shouldnt go overboard with it. I limited myself to 1copy for that reason.
    Flavourwise its very tight.

I like it. Seems fun, difficult to use but not impossible, and very flavorful. Touch Of Death has always been a hard card to play with, and nothing else there really screams overpowered at most, that item is a single blue token for an Unholy Energy, which I'm not opposed to, given what it comes with.

@Founder: Quick Reactions is a reactive Boost card, and Shield items get reactions including Boosts, like Jump Back and Dodge. I could be totally wrong here, but I suspect a big reason that QR is only found on helmets is to help the rock/paper/scissors feel some. I expect you know, generally speaking, warriors have to overpower wizards with sheer damage-per-card, and wizards have to overpower warriors by consistently keeping distance. Priests, however, are a freaktastic bunch who meddle and muddle in everyone's affairs and playstyles -- raw cantrip vampires, self-sufficient radiation burfft, and plenty in between. (Back to my possibly being totally wrong,) I believe QR is given exclusively to warriors for a reason, giving them a tiny bit of extra draw power against magic-users in particular -- because priests have so many tools in their boxes already (with heals which can often make up for the lower magic damage; purges and cleanses; Cause Fumble ha ha ha; plus many many ways to gain card advantage). Put QR on a shield, and .. I don't know, I think it could upset the priest meta too much for Aloyzo's taste, hm? $:^ ]

Useful: Not even close, both Enchanted Mail and Dynamic Armor are overrated.
Themed: Why would a succubus be wearing enchanted mails? (or any mails for that matter)
Fun: I see nothing special about this combination of cards other than they all have rolls of 4+.

EDIT: Some submissions have been deleted putting your submission on page 3 change your link to reflect that.
