Selling Items, not allowed until later in campain?

First thanks for the coop option, I first heard of the game a couple years back and awaited the coop release, love it so far and then time to get over to playing.

Myself I can sell items or treasure at any point, the highest I have is just a level 4 so far. However my coop partner still cannot, gets a message like "Cannot sell items until later in campaign". Roughly when does this occur? Do they have to run a single player campaign up to some point to open that up?

Not really sure why the two of us could be different, unless this is something that changed (I played a little in 2013) and perhaps I'm grandfathered in.

Thanks. What is funny I can sell items at Reknown 4, I'll go with that is because it is an older account. Renown level 7 was what I was looking for.
