Dear Blue Manchu, I took a look at this thread right here, and a suggestion came to mind that'll REALLY discourage resigning Ranked matches early [if it's really that much of a problem]. Me, personally, I only ever report someone for taking too much time if it literally takes them 2 minutes to PLAY A TRAIT/MANDATORY ACTION [C'mon, it's not like you HAVE A CHOICE; decide the order you wanna play them in and THEN think a lot]. I've never reported someone for quitting early, though. When someone quits early, I go, "oh, cool. Easy win for me." If someone resigns in the 1st 5 seconds, I'm not gonna blow a gasket. I get free stuff if that happens, and I'm never gonna argue with free stuff. That aside, though, BM, if you REALLY wanna discourage early resignations, simply permanently erase a random Rare, Epic AND Legendary item from any player that resigns a Ranked match before earning even a single VP. Note that I said "AND" and not "OR". That'll discourage early resignations. You could explain that one of those Hidden Bandits came and took 'em. - Mike. Edit [12 minutes later]: After having more of a think about this, I decided to add the following points: If you wanna discourage resignations, BM, you have to discourage ALL forms of resignation, or else there will still be people who think it's OK. I've lost 6-0 before; It's not the end of the world. and don't say, "awwww, that's prolonging the inevitable. You should just quit if you know you're going to lose". That's a cop out. Just because you know you're going to lose doesn't mean that you have to hand them a win on a silver platter. Suck it up and try to salvage by getting the 2 stars you need to keep your META Standing from dropping, at least. x( Another edit [7 minutes later]: After some more thought, thanks to Post #4 [made by @timeracers], I've notice that the above points can also go for inactivity or timer timeouts where the resigning player has yet to earn a VP.
Dislike. Sometimes you have to stop because of emergencies, or your internet connection stops. This is way too overkill. Now we could just say people who dc'ed(and didn't reconnect) get the regular queue penalty. Then when your connection cuts out and you can get it working in the next few minutes you do have some penalty but it won't be that bad unless your connection constantly cuts out(you shouldn't be playing mp anyway) or you dc yourself from the internet on purpose.
@timeracers: Note that I said that You'd only receive the item loss penalty if you RESIGN without getting a single VP. If you KNOW you don't have the time to get even a single VP, you shouldn't be playing MP in the first place; play Campaign, instead.
You are right that this would discourage resigning, but couldn't we just perma ban them instead? That will discourage them. How about this: When a player resigns early/disconnects without reconnecting the opponent receives a pop-up that asks if they would like to report them.
Sometimes it's better to use the carrot instead of the stick. Like a free daily chest when logging in if there were no reports for the previous day.
Because adding insult to injury is such a great way to attract/keep new players. Seriously, I think you should only be penalized if you resign/dc when all your chars are above half health. Some decks on some maps have a great deal of difficulty getting any VPs against certain decks, and it would be fairly easy for a troll to design a deck that can reliably get a first round VP then resign.
So what you're saying is really the best way to solve this problem would be simply to prevent winners from getting a prize chest if the loser resigns in under a minute. That way winners would start regularly reporting instant resigns.
Players can build decks that kill themselves. This has been proven by the hilarious Elf deck that kills itself in 1~2 turns. But it's been awhile since I've played, so remind me: what good is there in losing games anyway? Is it so it's easier to win (and earn prizes) in the future?
Theres some reason in the idea of no consequence of matches that didnt truely happen anyway - no elo or loot for the ones stood up. But i see that may upset more casual players.
