Tried it out (I only have 2 bug zappers, so one of my wizards got a richie's frigid laser), won a game against yyets. fun!
fwiw, I just took fiery stab burning damage in mimetic armor, and it gave me a bludgeon . . .
The first six damage are melee, the end of turn damage (from the attachment) is fire, I believe.

Yeah, I'd read that, and my party is similar to that one, but I can't make it work! Was wondering if anyone had any other routes to success.

the control key is your friend -- hold it down when selecting the spell, and it'll let you choose allies as targets.
