This game is ridiculous. There's no reason for it to be this hard

I'm sure I'll get flamed by the people that tell me to learn the mechanics and equip the right cards before the match, but it's just absolutely ridiculous how difficult this game is - for no reason. I don't know if it's appealing to the .003% of you who love an EXTREME challenge, or it's arrogant developers who pride in the fact they've made the must difficult turn-based game in history.
Someone please tell me why this game needs to be this hard? It's a game. It's supposed to be fun. It's like you WILL lose unless you A.) equip the absolute perfect cards against the exactly precise enemies you are going against, B.) get very lucky, and C.) draw the most perfect hands and execute the most perfect game.
I'm sure the people who don't think the game is hard at all will tell me to quit crying and go play checkers.
I'm renown 13, and don't play much multiplayer.
PS. And don't get me started about how you don't draw up to five cards each hand. What in the world is that mechanic for? "You better keep two cards in your hand, or else we'll penalize you and not give you more cards!!" Unbelievable.

Unfortunately, the game asks you to tune your build to the module you're playing in singleplayer, and often you can't know what that means until you've already lost the map. A lot of people recognize this as a bad user experience, but I'm not sure if the devs have anything in mind to make it better. Often if you lose a map there'll be hints to tell you what you should equip when you replay the level—which definitely helps your chances on the replay. That's the only system in place right now to try to alleviate frustrations like the one you're expressing, and it doesn't completely solve the problem... I don't know, I guess I'm just sympathizing with you. Good luck.

This is a very challenging game. But the devs are listening to complaints, and will make changes to make it more fair. Back in beta everyone said the level 7 Trogs were impossible, so they added some new guaranteed drops, and now players are getting stuck at level 13 instead.

    General advice:
Build your collection; the game is called "Card Hunter" for a reason. Just 1 MP victory every day will help a lot, as will repeating the level 2-6 adventures (many of the best items in the game are found there). Mauve Manticore does not use your current characters or items, so you just need skill and luck to win (and it drops loot based on your current renown).

Is there a specific module that's causing you problems? Shrine of the Astral Guardians can be skipped; you don't need to beat it to finish the campaign. Jewel of Alet Zhav is tricky because the monsters change drastically from map to map; check the wiki to see what to expect. Actually, looking at the Adventures table, I see that you can skip ALL the level 13 modules and go straight from Tvericus to Citrine (or you could do Alet Zhav and skip Citrine).

Yep, Jewel of Alet Zhav is the one that prompted my angry post. Before that it was the Burnt Pudding. I understand equipping chop-based weapons for blobs, but hey, let's put the same amount of enemies in the same match that are completely the OPPOSITE of the blobs, where you need bashing, because chopping and piercing does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to them. And then the things like, if you kill the slime, he heals everyone around him, or the other one where he deals damage to anyone around him.

I do read people's recommendations for rounds, but it's always stuff like, "bring armor-removing cards, get them from behind, and focus on the one so-and-so enemy first." OK, that's good and everything, but it's always triple the number of enemies. Literally, the average game seems to have 9 enemies to my party of three. And those enemies, as you know, aren't scrubs. You're meleeing away at them, getting zapped from across the map. You can't equip your players to defend against melees, zaps, fire, and also have the right weapon for the right enemy, in the perfect place on the map - especially when you frantically played your entire hand last turn, and now you start with three cards this turn, and two of them are walk or run cards, and a flimsy block card. :(

If they would just PLEASE, give you five cards to start your turn, regardless of how many cards you played the previous turn. Or have that as an option to raise/lower the difficulty.

OK, I'll keep playing, and skip Alet Zhav for now.

Around level 13 is a good place to play previous modules (up to 2 less than your character level) to gain an extra level or 2. The extra HP and tokens mean a lot, and unless you have great gear or mad skills, you'll probably need them. I know I did.

"OK, let me skip that Alet Zhav and go on to another one.
Oh, a map with TWELVE ENEMIES this time - two of them huge ogres.
Let me just Firestorm these little goblins away...
Oh, they all have blocks, so none of them take any damage.
And now I'm being surrounded ten enemies on the second turn.
    Cool game. Much fun."
OK, back to the lower levels to grind.

I remember only failing in about 3 different adventures on my first tries (1 Demon Portal and 1 Tree quests for sure) - and I didn't replay lower levels at all (my mistake tho).
The ongoming battles' descriptions you can see before every battle give you an idea what you should equip and wiki contains all the possible info you could wish for :p Wiki makes SP so easy it feels pretty much like cheating imo :)

  8. Okay i don't want to be "that" guy but either you got incredibly bad drops on your initial campaign run or you're somehow bad at this game. I've played turn based strategy games alot harder than this one so i don't understand how Card Hunter is as difficult as you claim. Yes Jewel is probably the toughest module though.

I guess you're talking about some PvE scenarious, which are very difficult. I had some problems too, but I completely understand why they're so difficult, so I've passed this stage more easily.
If they wouldn't be difficult, you wouldn't consider them a challenge. I know a lot of games where the campaign is only a tutorial; player forget about it after their first day in the game. The challenge is much more interesting because you can constantly improve your party to beat a specific challenge more consistently or faster. Plus, the game gives you rewards for beating a challenge; giving the rewards for nothing would devalue the rewards.
Please remember this is a collectible card game. This means you should constantly seek for the better cards and improve your decks. Spend some money on Randimar's rarities, and you will notice that the "ridiculously difficult" scenarious are becoming very easy.

This game isn't intended to be hard. It's intended to make money :) If you like such games as we do, you will spend some money and get the items you need to beat the scenarios. Then you will play PvP of course too, at least for the prizes :) No, you don't need "absolute perfect cards" or extreme luck; you just need good items - a lot of them. That's a nature of all CCGs. If you don't like hunting for the cards, why do you play a game called Cardhunter? :)

The game developers know their job very well. If you would always draw to 5 cards, people would build their decks to play as much cards as possible, which may be even mindless. A success in the good CCG is based on card combos. That's why sometimes you want to keep some cards in your hand, hoping to draw the missing combo parts, and sometimes you want to get rid of the bad cards, to get the good cards instead (even if not on the next turn).

It was around level 12-13 that I started to hit that spot where I was underpowered. Go to the Goblin Bazaar and stock up on items. Common high-level items there have good attacks and can help you get back in front of the modules power-wise.

I made it to the third map of Alet Zhav in my nudie run - using under levelled characters and only sub-par gear found along the way (my warrior was even using the starter weapon). I'm in no way a "l337" player, even if I do know my way around - and know the enemy decks pretty well. I think the thing with rng CAN create the situation where it can become frustrating - if you're unlucky or unprepared. I did some general tactics research in beta, and the game has generally become easier since then.

If you feel the game becomes punishing, I'd suggest starting a secondary party - to avoid that Brick Wall Frustration Syndrome. Maybe you'll find a party or race combination that feels better, develop new strategies or even luck out and get some nice loot to boost your main party. Also, feel free to ask advice if you feel stuck on a specific adventure.

I started using your "Pengw1n Plays A Tactical Journey" thread during my first run and it helped a lot. I've played lots of turn-based war games, but this CCG stuff was hard to get used to. It gets easier once you learn what works with what, and what to expect from your opponents.

Recently, having tired of multiplayer and farming, for a change of pace and to re-experience the dialog in SP, I created a new account and replayed the campaign from the beginning (I didn't realize that having a second account was a no no). I set myself the following rules: No club membership or buying pizza. Play each adventure only once (ie no farming). I was curious if I would struggle as much as my first time through, where I felt like I was constantly hitting the wall (I'm lookin at you, goblin shredders and your spider buddies). Although there were some close calls, I completed the campaign without having to start any adventure over. Not because I'm so skilled, but because I've learned the game. Referring to Pengw1n's Tactical Journey, as Sir Veza mentions, can be a big help. Learning the vagaries of the AI is also big. So don't despair. Unless you're running all elves, in which case you might be in trouble.
As a side note, I'd forgotten how much fun shopping was, now that I only have to spend about a minute a week in Randimar's.

Where did you hear that? I've previously heard mention here on the forum that if you don't use it to get free wins by playing against yourself the devs are fine with multiaccounting.

The Terms of Service are unclear on the matter:
Are additional acounts considered "false pretenses"? I don't know, so I put all of my extra accounts on the test server where I know it'll be fine.

Sorry to hear that OP, personally I never found the game to be difficult. Yes, it's challenging if you go in ill equipped or don't change your tactics accordingly, but I never found myself thinking "The Devs need to lower the level of challenge in the game." If it comes to that, just to some of the lower level maps to earn some better gear.

Huh. My bad. Although, I was pretty sure I read something in the ToS that implied that using more than one account was bad.

And yeah, sorry you have had a bad experience. It is bound to happen to some people, and some of those people will post about it on this forum, but like most games, there will always be people that fall between the cracks while the majority are fine with the difficulty level.
