Can't Connect to Game

Problem: after registering for the game, I can't login. The game states: "Connection failed. The server or your internet connection may be down. Please refresh the page and try to login again". Alternately, if you are using the Steam client, you receive a message stating that the game failed to authenticate your login.

    Solutions:
    • Check your internet connection.
    • Refresh the page (use the refresh button on your browser).
    • If you use a firewall (either in Windows, a software firewall or on your router), try temporarily disabling this.
    • If your firewall is the problem, you can try opening the ports the game needs. These are ports 8080, 9933, and 443.
    • If you are running any anti-virus software, try temporarily disabling it. You may need to tell your AV software to allow the game to use the ports listed above.
    • If you are using a DNS filter like OpenDNS, you may need to whitelist (allow connections to) https://accounts.cardhunter.com and https://live-server.cardhunter.com. Check with your domain filtering service to find out how to whitelist these sites.
    • If you have installed extensions to your browser like AdBlock or others, try disabling those.
    • If you have multiple network adaptors try disabling all but the one that you use to connect to the internet with.

Heh, this time it was maintenance. Should be fixed now.

If you're getting stuck at the "currently down for maintenance" page, you can try browsing directly to the URL for the maintenance script to see if your browser is having problems loading it (which would suggest a firewall or proxy issue if the server isn't actually down for maintenance): https://live-server.cardhunter.com/check_maintenance.jsp

If that loads successfully, the next most likely problems are that your browser has decided to cache an old failure result, or that your browser is failing to launch Flash Player.

[edit: maintenance URL is now on a standard https port]

I'm getting stuck at the splash screen (soda, card hunter book, and bowl of cheetos) i can move the tabletop around but i get no buttons to enter campaign or MP. Before that it froze when moving to the second battle against the lizardmen, and then i was able to log back in but it froze again when i tried to re-enter the adventure.

Edit...nevermind. Reloading worked this time. Tried it several times before with no result.

When I try to connect to the game on my Mac (using Chrome) I get the "Servers are down for maintenance error", but I've successfully been able to log in using Chrome for Windows immediately afterward.

I'm trying to play on a netbook, (win xp) getting this error:
    Viewport target-densitydpi is not supported.

    payments.html?formFactor=DESKTOP&rh=009a5d1d46da46d374d74c650d0c3aff:4

Loads in explorer, but is slow. Will not run in chrome due to this error, hope it's addressed.

  10. I have been unable to load the game since I signed up for my account a few days ago. I keep getting the message:

Card Hunter is currently down for maintenance. Please try again in a few minutes.
    Try Again

I am running Firefox on a MacBook Pro, but I get the same message in Chrome and Safari, too. I am not running a firewall, nor am I running any anti-virus software or extensions like AdBlock. When I look at the Firebug console there are no Javascript errors being reported.

When I load the game URL on my work computer, which is a Windows machine, it loads perfectly. However, I can't play the game on my work machine.

How can I get this game to load? I really want to try it.

  12. None of those solutions worked. I'm still getting the same message about maintenance.

Are you able to load the maintenance page (https://live-server.cardhunter.com/check_maintenance.jsp) directly in your browser?

[edit: we updated the maintenance URL to use a secure connection and standard port]

That suggests something on your network (ISP, possibly) is blocking your access to that port.

Is the port forwarded in your router settings?

  16. Comcast does not block 8080. I know how to get into my router settings, but I have absolutely no idea how to see if that port is blocked or how to make it work. Network administration should not be part of playing a game :(

Well to be fair to these guys, opening ports is a really common part of playing PC games online - and as far as I know, it's not really in the power of developers to get around that. I agree that it's really annoying, though. One thing that makes it even more annoying is that different routers have different user interfaces and have the various options in different sections from each other, often under totally different names.

Hopefully this guide will help you, just look at your router and try to see what make it is: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

  18. I followed the instructions for forwarding port 8080 and it still doesn't work. I give up. This is simply too much trouble for a game.

With the latest build (1.16), the maintenance check now goes to the standard https port (443).
