We're posting a new story/preview blog every day this week leading up to our public playtest. Here's the next installment: http://www.cardhunter.com/2016/09/introducing-werewolves/ Get hype!
Nothing like a nice dinner of hast before storming the castle. Will the words "Werewolf/Spirit/Vampire" show up on the cards? Or do we have to memorize them like the Malfunctions?
Hype! Hype! Hyrooooo! Are you disposed to say which types items will receive lycanthropic form? On the one hand, it seems like a warrior thing. on the other hand, it seems like something any infected person would be able to do.
Thanks. Warrior Confirmed. I wonder what other things will go with the transform card. I can't wait to find out when the play-test opens.
Lots of interesting stuff, nice lore just like last time. Glad to say I called vampires and werewolves, but spirits looks new to me. Warrior Werewolves, Priest Vampires and Wizard Spirits, seems to me that three line up a bit too well to be a pure coincidence. I'm guessing that means cards like Ancient Grudge and Monstrous Skin as we saw before are some of the Spirit and Vampire cards. Rumors of accidental appearances in CoC by Fey Elves seems to pretty much confirm new CoC playable characters, perhaps there'll also be new Vampire, Werewolf and Spirit characters? Maybe some of the names figures here even appear as legendary characters, that would be swell. Fey Silversmith looks quite good for a damage boosting card, about on par with Crusher in only caring for damage type and not some keyword, same damage boost and long duration, but only at Bronze quality. So much for all Silver cards being Silver quality. A nice change of pace from the standard movement-heavy traits, and perhaps a reason to run Silver Elven Wizards? And not even a Rare card either! Inquisitor's Badge seems to be the inverse of Monstrous Hide, I guess people can't just pack nothing but Silver and expect to go by without armor removal. Inquisition Bolt reminds me of a more specific Punishing Bolt, though far better when its specifications are met. Just one of those three card types and you're looking at a Sorcerous Blast that reveals a card. And judging by Lunging Bite being a werewolf card it might be very good in some SP modules too, that would be neat! Inquisitor's Strike is an interesting punishment for trait-heavy characters similar to Brainhook, which are quite common. It definitely looks more playable than Punishing Strike which requires the opponent to have 4 cards to break even, here you only need 2 attachments on them to overtake regular silver-quality attacks. Howl's interesting, compared to Push the Button and Pull the Trigger its quality is the same and is has a minor heal, so I'm guessing the quality of random Werewolf cards is about comparable to the random melee/magic Laser pool. Lunging Bite being a Werewolf card makes me assume we can expect more old monster cards to become player cards, at least indirectly, especially biting cards. I'm going to guess cards like Vicious Bite and Infected Bite might make an appearance, maybe there's even a Mighty Charge in there? Lycanthropic Form is interesting as well, pretty much temporarily replacing the player's deck with a set of Werewolf cards. Again, given the silver quality I am guessing the cards from the Werewolf card pool would be at least up to par with a player's regular deck, if not even more to incentivize them to give up their regular deck for a monster's one. Looking forward to seeing more on Vampires and Spirits!
Do old cards like draining touch count as vampire cards? Do people who get bit by werewolfes turn into werewolfs?
Note that it also gives you Armor 2 for 2 turns. All the Form cards have a passive boost in addition to the draw replacements. Howl can draw Move and Armor cards, so it's a bit less consistent than Push the Button which only draws Attacks. But yeah, the average quality is about the same at the moment. Vampire cards include many draining attacks, but not all of them (I excluded some of the weaker ones in order to keep the average card quality on par with the average card quality of Werewolf and Spirit cards). Oh man, I realized last night we still haven't tested attaching Form cards to large monsters yet!
nice! Can't wait to try this in multiplayer....Oh wait, im still permabanned because people flag me for no reason and it hasn't been lifted yet.
Will Inquisition Bolt affect draining attacks on old weapons, or just cards drawn because of Vampire form?
I'd be interested in this too. I'd hope/expect the words Werewolf/Spirit/Vampire will show up on cards (Maybe Flaxative is adding it as an attack or damage type?) including old cards reclassified having the word added. Its one thing to have a card like Push the Button say that it draws you from a random pool of cards and not have that specific pool identified in game. Its a whole different thing to have cards that interact with a certain card type, but no identifier on the card itself that it qualifies for the interaction... It would seem those old (and new) draining attacks that are "Vampire" will have to say it somewhere if we don't want utter confusion and endless complaints from new players, right?
I think the forms could be fun but I don't expect them to get much love in MP since most Meta [Players] seem to avoid random chaos theory stuff like lasers, radiation, or anything that might affect their precious deck design. But since I like weird stuff, I am excited to play them. I think melee mages just got a lot cooler!
