Violent_Overswing has 1 less damage than Powerful_Hack and Powerful_Bludgeon but requires discarding an extra card. It is practically useless and also makes legendary items like Demigod's_Hammer unusable as well. I don't remember seeing anyone using it at all in the last month. I think we should at least add some Hard_To_Block to this card.
Yeah, it's a great card to use when levelling - but at that item level, you usually have a lot better options in terms of damage (with less negative payoff). Then again, say BM would introduce a trait or something that triggers on discard - that might change the value of the card in mp.
Powerful Hack (11 damage) is silver quality. The bronze rare card to compare it with is Strong Hack (8 damage). Is the +2 damage worth the card discard? Usually not, but hey, it's something. It carries a cost because it's the highest damage bronze card with nothing else to compete. I found a Kobold Killer at the very beginning, still during the tutorial. It's not bad for low-level farming - after one Overswing, the enemy is dead, so it doesn't really matter if you discard another card. Yeah, the hammer is crap, but pretty much all cards on it are substandard except Team Heal. Yes, Hard to Block would make overswing more powerful, but be careful - it shouldn't overshadow Skillful Strike (silver - 7 damage - HtB 3. If you want to talk about a bronze attack card that does too piddly damage for its high penalty, look at Raging Strike.
Violent Overswing might be interesting if there were more discard triggers (like Toughened Hide Strips), or if it worked like Wild Run and you could avoid the discard by playing it when your hand is empty... but we have neither, so yes, it's pretty bad.
It's fine at low level SP, but even then it get's outclassed pretty easily. The combination of wanting an extra card AND not being playable when it's the last card in hand is a rough combination to play around. A good MP deck doesn't have many cards it's willing to discard. A version that discarded an attachment would be interesting, but no where near as much of a penalty. As an attack card it does seem to be costed very expensively when included on items, which I assume has to do with the fact it does 10 damage. Mindless Aggression is another legendary that seems a bit crazy in regards to token cost. I don't know if the item is usable at a cost of no tokens (the more of these you have the harder they can be to use), but at this cost there's no question. An interesting side effect of the item mechanics, is that if a card is determined to be useless, highly situational or even bad, it has a negative impact on every item using that card. Item creation and balance is made much more complicated because of this. No simple answers, but I expect a lot of lessons will be learned over time.
It's valued as "bronze plus". Most bronze have value 3, this one has value 4. Which is why Mindless Aggression is a lvl 12, not 9. And yeah, it's one of those legendaries.
I still use it on some no-token divine weapons. A Club of Wrath is pretty decent, for example. It's not uncommon to have a Unreliable Block or a Purge or something that's useful situationally but expendable in the moment. That said, I don't play multiplayer anymore.
When I was new and struggling for melee damage I loved it. I don't use it anymore, but then, I never play melee either.
It can occasionally be beneficial to discard your own cards. Some negative traits linger in your hand, and will over the course of a turn or two end up being your oldest card. In these cases the damage you get for a Bronze card, and being able to discard something unwanted, could be handy. In particular, some of my priest builds get stuck with Slowed or Demonic_Miasma. There's a couple of others like Arcane_Feedback that also qualify, though I rarely use an item with that on it. I do mostly agree that in a game where card counts are king (being able to use one of your cards to nullify two or more of theirs) this is of limited utility. Are there any experts out there who have some specific use for this card, and can show us some good examples? Nothing immediately springs to mind for me.
I love that card. Still use items with it on all SP quests. As mentioned by SgtSteve it can be great to combine with powerful items that also have bad cards. If the situation is favorable you can do good damage and get rid of a bad card in the progress. I use it for my Elf Cleric as a means to get in quick for that clean kill after having already played some strong cards. Something an opponent in PvP never things one would do.
