Two Priests one Warrior

Howdy! For quite some time I was running a two warrior/one priest build. It did fairly well until I ran into 3DC in the upper 1300's and got my face handed to me. I also noticed that there were a lot of people running the same build, so I decided to switch it up for something a little different.

    Isaac Dan der Grimnebulin
    Level 20 Human Warrior

    Cannonball
    Level 19 Dwarf Priest

    Mother Superior
    Level 19 Human Priest

Isaac is your basic Nimble Warrior, and he performs fairly well. Potential changes would be swapping out the Greatclub for a Bejeweled at the cost of worse boots (an easier decision if I had another pair of Sticky Slippers). If I made that switch and dropped him to Goat Boots it would free up a minor token which could potentially be used to improve his Human skill (Trained or Superb Command) or upgrade his armor to something like Gauntlets of the Giant.

Cannonball is my Vampire. My biggest question with him at the moment is his racial. I really like the mobility of Raging Brute (Muscle Through has done some good things for me), but I feel like it might be better. I do have both Raging Battler and Apprentice Ferocity, which each come with two Blind Rage and a defensive card.

Mother Superior is my more supportive Priest, and the unit I feel could use the most improvement. I'm playing the Supplicant's Hammer almost exclusively for the Purge (though the Inspiration is also nice). I could swap the Nimbus Blade for the Glinting Eye Hammer and maybe change the Supplicant's to a Heavy Mace and one of the Shuddering Relic's to a Shielding Token. That would give me more damage for her overall, at the cost of one Mass Frenzy and a Vulnerable. Raging Strike always makes me nervous though.

So far the team has performed pretty well, going 7-3 since I started using it (I'm still in the 1200 rank) with wins over both Cardtron and one 3DC build. Any thoughts or advice on improving it would be quite welcome.

    Thanks for your time.

Why is he a dwarf, if I may ask? If you care at all about mobility, an elf with the exact same items, except Escapist as his racial, would seem a lot better. You'd have better total mobility and better average mobility, and you'd probably do a lot better against control wizards. That said, major thumbs up for going vamp :)

Seconded. Vamps can take lots of hits when played correctly, because they're constantly replenishing their HP. They don't need the xtra HP offered by dwarves, and added mobility is tremendously helpful.

Thanks guys, I've made the switch. Loss of the Blind Rage shouldn't be too devastating, especially since I pick up another cycling card with Escapist. I also made the Glinting Eye swap-around on my Human Priest that I talked about in my first post. I'll keep playing and let you all know how it works out.

Do you feel like 4 Mass Frenzy is enough? I have been running 2 warriors and a priest with 5 of them, and yesterday I went 2 games without drawing one. I've even considered going with 7 in an attempt to provide 100% up-time on this most useful (to me) of buffs. One warrior has 63.33% attack cards and the other has 65.5%. You may have a different play-style, of course, and if you think 4 is the right number, then by all means go with 4. I use items with some weaker attacks on them like Nifty Halberd on each warrior, and without MF on, those cards really aren't worth playing, in my opinion. I'm considering using a Gouging Helm to get nearly 70% attack cards instead of having Reliable Mail, Hardy Mail, Obvious Maneuver on the helm. With Obliterating Bludgeon, I've found that making sure they have no blocks first is essential. Nothing is worse than getting this attack parried. Ok, I lied, nothing is worse than getting this parried if you play All Out Attack along with it. I like to have a War Cry or two when I use O. Bludgeons with AOA so that may be something you could consider working in. Advanced Ferocity and Bellowing Helm are both good sources of this card.

Speaking of 3dc, I have played both sides of this match-up, and I think the key for the 2 warrior 1 priest team is for the warriors to avoid line of sight until they have a hard to pin down. This usually isn't too much of a problem since the wizards generally don't rush the victory squares on turn 1 anyway. Then the warriors can quickly cover the distance to the wizards and begin step-attacking. I use a human priest with Perfect Command. The team moves on this item are push effects, and so they aren't affected by encumber. Wizards also don't have huge attack damage per hit, so Martyr Blessing will punish them for Path Of Knives(you can move the minimum distance to draw a card for 2 life), Winds Of War, Flame Jet, and their frost spells. Using Team Run at good times and having a couple Immovable can totally negate WoW, too. Purge has won me games against 3dc also. I just wait to use it until they use their move card on a wizard that an encumbered warrior could reach if I purge the frost off. I'm not saying 3dc doesn't give me problems, because when played well, it can. I've had line of sight headaches against war, war, priest teams when playing as 3dc though that were very frustrating and almost impossible to win once an immovable warrior or two with hard to pin down were in my face.

Honestly I don't think four is quite enough Mass Frenzy, and if I had Bleneth's Skull or St. Olaf's Fiery Pike I would run them in a heartbeat. As my party stands now though, the only way to work more in would be to give up either the Shroud or the Shielding Token on my vampire, which I'm not quite willing to do at the moment. I might still consider swapping out the Token for another Shuddering Relic, but I would like to keep playing with the Nimbus for a bit. One of the reasons I went with two Priests is for the versatility of support cards. The party as it stands is supposed to benefit from whatever support it draws without being wholly dependent on any of them. It's working fairly well so far.

I've thought quite a bit about War Cry, and I would indeed like to find a way to work it in, but since changing my vampire from a Dwarf to an Elf (a change that has worked out fairly well so far), my only option is on the Warrior, and I would have a really hard time giving up the Tough Leather Cap for a Bellowing Helm. While Hide Strips is an underwhelming card, the combination of Dash Team and AoA is REALLY good. I've done some fun things with War Cry, but it's never drawn me the rage-quits that AoA has, and I've become a lot more careful about how I play my big attacks as far as enemy facing is concerned. If I go back to a two Warrior build though I will almost certainly be running the Bellowing Helm on one of them.

I couldn't agree more about Martyr's Blessing being the perfect counter to Path of Knives. I actually love getting hit with Knives if I've got a Blessing in my hand, and I'm perfectly willing to take a small amount of damage to draw another card or three. This team has done quite a bit better than my old team against control wizards, and their increased mobility (and Immovability, heh) is a big part of that. I still only win about half of my matches against control decks, but part of that is not having seen many good control builds at lower ranking and needing some more practice against them.

Thanks for all of your input, you make a lot of good points!
