Right now I feel a bit confused about item level vs item rarity. I have a rare level 3 axe and a common lavel 6 axe: which one is supposed to be more powerful? I know I must check the cards attached to the items and decide for myself, but I'd like to know what goes in the heads of the dev team. A rare item is supposed to be on par with a common item of how many level above it? Cheers! MadHab EDIT: Ops, I guess this shouldn't be on the Beta Feedback forum - my bad...
A very high item level is generally better than a low level rare - in terms of power. However - it's sort of an intersecting grid I'd say - some low level rare (and betters) are the best items you can get without having to use up a talent point. Generally, I think every rarity "level" of an item makes the percieved power level of an item go up a few levels, meaning an uncommon 10 is approximatly as good as a rare 6 in some terms.
I think Pengw1n is about right. My sense is when determining the power of an item from the game's perspective, the following things matter (though I could certainly be wrong...I haven't really studied it): 1. Quality of the cards attached (black, paper, bronze, silver, gold, green, purple) 2. Items are considered more powerful if they have multiple copies of the same card. 3. Items get upgraded if they have cards that usually attach to other item types (weapons with blocks, shields with attacks, etc.). 4. Rarity of the cards plays a role. For example, Dodge is only bronze, but because it is a rare card, it only shows up on rare, epic, and legendary items.
Sort by card cost. Although stores buy lengendary treasures level one to level eighteen items for 1000 gold coins, if you sort by cost there is a definite order to the values of the items. Set a search result to all your items by cost listed by most valuble at the top. Then you will have your best items at the top. Equip all those first. Then sideboard if necessary.
I'm sorry, Chad, but that's just not even remotely right. Sorting by cost just lists the Legendary items you have in alphabetical order at the top, then Epic items in the same order and so on. Equipping those first is a really bad idea. Also, there is no sideboard in Card Hunter.
First, to clear things up, item rarity solely depends on the rarity of the cards on the item (see the circle with C / U / R on them). Item level depends on the quality of the cards (the color of the title bar). The original design intent was that cards get more powerful the higher the quality is. They get more complex to play the higher the rarity is. In reality though, card rarity is quite random and maybe 20% of the cards are up to one full quality step too high or too low once you have a good understanding of how the game works. Item level and rarity give you a rough idea of an item's power level, but they are no replacement for your own skill. Some of the best items in the game are low-level tokenless commons and uncommons, while there are high-level rares, epics and legendaries that are total crap.
Item rarity is about how often you'll find it in chests, the more rare an item the better it could potentially be but there are many low rarity items better than high rarity items. The most useful items I found thus far have been rares and epics, legendary stuff is mostly either really good or really unusable. There are some rare spells that only appear on epic and legendary items. Item level and power token requirement are related to each other. The item level also tells you in which SP dungeons you can find it, in a level 8 dungeon you will mostly find level 8 stuff but also level 5 to level 11 for example. For items with the same power requirement, higher level items with the same rarity will usually be better. For the single player campaign and quests, you'll want as many great unpowered items as you can get, as you will be using these the most.
