I kinda don't get why that's not the case. It's not logical at all imho, that going through adventure normally awards you exp and going through some insane challenges and paying after every death does not.
There must be something I'm not understanding about this. I had a blast and played the campaign on a binge (and bought an expansion). Once I beat it, I was looking forward to playing the campaign again with a new level 1 party, except doing the quests this time. 3 new wizards, ready for adventure! Then I finished my first quest and realized without xp, my plans fell apart. My original party was a cleric, warrior, and wizard. So how am I to do the triple wizard quests throughout the entire campaign? I'd have to finish the campaign again with a new party JUST to get experience. Only after completing the campaign TWICE would I begin to work on quests. This is too much grinding, and sadly I quit the game immediately and haven't played since. Am I missing something? Are you supposed to do all the quests with a level one party? And as for the first reply to the OP, why would I want to keep my elf wizard at level 4? How would I do the later missions with a low level party? Thanks.
I don't think this game should have experience points. The characters should just have the same level as the adventure they are playing. People would still have a reason for grinding, to get treasure. And people would still have to solve the early levels before the later levels were available.
Yes, you are missing something. Somethings, to be exact. At lvl 4 wizards unlock robes, which give resistant hide. As they haven't unlocked all item slots, they have fewer cards in their deck, meaning you're more likely to draw said hide faster. Elf wizards are particularly useful in 1 hp quests because their obvious downside (lack of health) is negated, while their movement is still double dwarves'. You have to level characters up for quests - you'll find that process takes a lot less time when you have the items to do it quickly. However, I once leveled up 3x elf wizards to 20 before realising the quest called for human wizards. Pain in the butt. I like this idea. It would mean you couldn't do cool tricks like using lvl 4 wizards but I think the EXP system in this game is a little unnecessary. As a side note, I've completed all quests and would be happy to help anyone out, just find me in game
I play mostly MultyPlayer, and sometimes SinglePlayer, but I have about 30 characters 20-23lvl (at least 3 of each race and each class). Because of it takes very small amount of time to level to 20+, while doing adventures 2+ levels higher than your party (you get +1 level for each one adventure). But, basically i'd set no-xp rule only for 1hp quests, though still im fine with it is now.
You are expected to do some grinding in this game, else why would you keep playing after the completing the campaign? Also, there are quests for all nine race/class combos. In addition to what others have said, you can buy level 10 chars from the Songsword Tavern, then send them through Cardstock once a day to level them as high as you need.
Don't forget, there's plenty of greedy people out there with high level characters that would gladly help a slightly underleveled character through a quest to get themselves some more loot.
