The board editor can only load and save files from the local harddrive, so there's really no reason stay connected to the server while editing (once you download the latest version). Why not offer (or even require) a completely offline editor? Then we can poke around in it while waiting to log in, and more importantly, people poking around in the editor aren't standing in the way of people who want to do things that do require the server. (Offline campaign would be even better at reducing server load, but would require complete separation of SP and MP and dropping the premium content, so probably won't happen.)
