Hi ^.^ Okay, so I will ramble for a bit, but I will have a TL;DR at the bottom if you wanna skip to that. Reading some of the posts on here, I think it was Jade303 (if not, I am sorry) someone mentioned that Xander was a warrior, but his boots had arcane aura. Weird. looking at the items, I noticed a lot of named items were kinda like this. This kinda got me interested on the Lore behind them and thought what if they were offered as prizes? Special figurines, like if you get first place in league, you get a unique figure that only you own for like 1 month or duration of the next league and afterwards it disappears/goes to the next winner or a special figure you can win for completing the Campaign mode. What I was thinking about these figures isn't just cosmetic, but rather they are mixes. For example, Xander is a warrior, or so we think, but his figure would equip staffs. and instead of having a race slot, he would have a martial skill and an Arcane skill slot. Just as an example. Basically taking two jobs, meshing them into one character, gives interesting skill choices. I know this could mess up pvp, so thats why I would think they should be a campaign exclusive, something to make people who completed the game, (up to the current point) have something to make farming a little easier or some problem areas a little less difficult. Likewise, if it was for pvp, it would have a set time period before it switches to someone else, also if the person who currently owns it, it would go to the next highest rank, so it doesn't get stuck on just one person~ just kind of an interesting dynamic (at least in my opinion.) TL;DR version: Specialized figurines (modeled after the named items i.e. Wym, Xander, Azan, Sarigo, etc) that can be won/unlocked as prizes for completing campaign that blend two classes together. (I.e. a warrior that equips staffs, or possibly arcane items instead of shields, they give up race bonus for having two skill bonuses, things like that)
I suggested something similar in spirit: http://forums.cardhunter.com/threads/suggestion-cosmetic-item-sets.5898/
It sounds great, but I suspect the coding would be prohibitive. If it's workable it could also be a base for D&D style multi-class characters.
Tbh, I don't believe we'll see mixed figurines, as they need to be as clear as possible at first glance what class a character belongs to (reminds me of the early beta when some priest models used to wear helmets/headgear - and that was changed). As for multiclassing et c - that is another thing, who knows what would happen to figurines if they'd need to take that into account - sounds potentially very confusing in MP. However, I like the idea of cosmetic sets, or limited timed figurines.
well as I said, it would be a unique/award figure, its not something everyone would have access to, in SP it doesn't matter, but for PVP it will be very clear as it would be the only one of it, plus it would probably have word/an announcement on who the current holder is. I can see it being problematic if they were en mass. Also as a Campaign exclusive, I am not sure it matters if its clear or not what class it is since only the player needs to recognize it. programming it would probably be an issue, how great of one, I can only imagine though...
I don't like figures at all, though I'm the only one possibly If all played with default figures, there would be no need to mouse over the characters to see what race/role they are.
I like the idea about the Legendary figures, but think it'd be very impractical. First, the fact only one people gets to use a given figure at any given time (and for a limited amount of time only) means the devs would need to put work into content which would then be experienced by a very limited amount of people only. Given how BM only is a small indie company, that'd be far from optimal. Secondarily, I'd be strongly against any game-balance changing tied into figures. The idea as proposed by the OP would make exclusive gameplay available to the owner of such a figure only, with the whole fairness issues (thinking MP here) you might imagine. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure Jon doesn't want more stuff to be worried about and grabbing his attention, balance wise, than strictly needed. I have little issue with figures, but I can certainly see your point (and I reckon I too at times have to hover on figures which are particularly hard to read). As a fix to this kind of issue, I believe it would be nice to have an option for disabling custom figures. Players who wish so, would only display the basic figures for each class, despite whatever alt look was picked by the other players. I feel that would be both trivial to implement and convenient to those who don't want to be distracted during MP matches or whatever.
