There's nothing more depressing than realizing your high-value item drop is actually worthless treasure. It sucks even more if you just completed the 20-chest multiplayer challenge (not me, but I played the last match against a poor fellow to whom this happened).

There is some discussion of whether an increase in the value of epic treasure would make it worthwhile:

I think you'd have to make epic treasure worth 1000+ gold, or maybe ~90 pizza (3 rare treasure boxes), before it would feel worthwhile. Legendary treasure just shouldn't happen, unless perhaps it counts for a month-long subscription.

I disagree with almost everything you said except for the pizza part. Would be interesting if legendary treasure sold for pizza of the same gold value.

If Treasure is valuable at all, then of course Epic and Legendary Treasure is valuable. If nothing else, just think of all the obsessive collectors out there who will want a "Legendaries collection."

The issue is as you state: lots of people don't currently value Treasure. I sure as heck value it (seriously, Slippogriff Caviar? The very Slippogriff?), but its entirely possible Blue Manchu has a balance re-pass planned sometime.

Even though a legendary treasure will never directly be as useful as a legendary item, it still sells for enough gold that you could buy multiple rares or uncommons after selling it. It may not be a single awesome usable item but it results in many decent usable items, especially since you can choose what you buy and make sure every item is desirable instead of relying on chance to provide you with an item you can use.

Now I've never pulled a legendary treasure so I'm not sure what the sell value is, but I've gotten an Epic treasure before and 50 gold is nothing to scoff at.

Having said that, a lot of players will scoff at it and say "But I just saw something in the store for 10,000 Gold! And they expect me to buy it with 50?!" And, because I can predict the future after having repeated myself for months now, I'll direct them to this post for game prices, including the fact that prices are multiplied if you're trying to "jump" the power curve and get something above your level. (There's your 200 for Legendary Treasure, by the way. And my records say 40 for Epic: am I wrong?)

Now, plenty of folks have argued that these prices aren't so much "prohibitive" as "pointless." I personally got around 1,000 gold on-hand by playing casually before the beta reset, so I still couldn't buy a Legendary at 2,500. But playing hard for weeks and weeks and weeks? I wonder what sort of statistics Blue Manchu has on the current economy.

Would different treasures have different values? I'm holding onto a Black Pearl that sells for 50. I can provide a screenshot if you want.

Selling price is always the same by rarity. If you've got 50 there, then I'll just edit my post (from back in February, hope no one minds) to match.
