I really like the artwork for the Oak Lord in Black Oaken Heart. I also really like the artwork for Xanthicius in Lair of the Yellow Dragon. I'd like it even more if I could actually see them when we're fighting. Obviously this isn't a big gripe, but I think it's a waste of the art to constantly be looking at these boss monster's backs at the start of the stage. My suggestion is to simply flip the boards so we can see them.
http://forums.cardhunter.com/threads/suggestion-board-viewing-rotation-terrain.2522/ Great idea, however - there's some issues with the way maps are constructed, as mentioned in this discussion.
The disorientation argument that people used in that thread against this sort of request frustrates me. I'd hate to think that it's one of the reasons this sort of request doesn't seem to get much traction. Disorientation in this sort of game seems to result from choosing the wrong centerpoint around which to rotate the map (from my personal experience and those I've talked to). If the entire map pivots around it's corner, forcing me to go panning all over the place to find my characters location again, then it's still useful, just really poorly designed. If I click on a square, and push a designated rotate button that causes the point of view to rotate 90 degrees around that point, then it's pretty hard for your perception to get lost while using it, and that's just one way I've seen these 2d pretending to be 3d views get presented well. I knew there was a reason that the doodads and things in the map editor scared me a little, and I think this sums it up pretty well. Having a special lower doodad for the back edge of the map and corners pretty much ensures that you're designing a game that's only intended to be viewed at one angle, where two faces of a boards edge are by definition "facing away". If this was to ensure easy map creation from a small team and it's contributing community, then it makes good sense, but that doesn't mean I'm not also feeling really bad for you guys because it sounds like a system that would be sort of a pain to go back and improve on later. In fact, I'm amazed that the lower doodads weren't just replaced with a single button "Add final board edges". Let the software interpret whether that edge is a front of a back later on, right? I guess for the OP's request, he'd just like someone to go to the trouble or rebuilding the map but seen from the other angle, to increase the dramatic effect. This sounds a lot easier than the suggestion of an entirely new rotation function, so it probably wouldn't be too hard to do.
Pretty sure it's not related to the disorientation factor, rather than how maps are currently built in the game. Having a feature to be able to rotate the map would be awesome, but would either require a new map engine - where maps gets saved as a 3d object in one piece somehow (not sure how that would work with board terrain effects et c), or every map crafted several times. Possible solution, but somewhat time consuming for the devs. I'd rather have them created 10 new adventures than 5 with rotating features.
