Surprised I haven't seen this suggested before. Basically give an option in SP campaign mode to allow your module to be DM'd. I would envision it working like this: people who want to DM could hit a button to queue up and then be randomly assigned the next time a player started a qualified scenario. An example I can think of was Shogun 2: Total War, you could click a little box before a battle in campaign and it would search for a player to play for the AI. Before I wouldn't think was possible in this game but we all know how player-controlled mob control works since leagues started. I think this would revitalize SP campaign as a human is always going to be more cunning than AI. (And if the day comes when AI becomes as self-aware as human mind we'll have a lot more things to worry about than videogames) To reward DM's they should get a brown chest the first 2 times they beat the player, with the gold chest as a reward if they make them run out of their 3 tries. (at which point the player should have the option to retry with AI or a new, randomly selected DM) I wouldn't increase the rewards for the player as having an interesting challenge should be the incentive itself. Of course there could be potential problems with this : players colluding (hey dude can't beat troll tyrant think you could DM and help me out?) I think this would be mitigated by having the random queue for DM's DM's trolling / being jerks : Say its obvious you're losing the scenario so you decide to fly your remaining 1 stourge away from some slow dwarves for an eternity. I would hope a report button would be included just as in MP so these types of players could be banned from DM'ing Stalling/Slow Players/Time issues : With regular SP you get as long as you want since the AI doesn't care about time. Well humans don't have the luxury of waiting an unlimited amount. I would institute a per-turn timer (say 30 sec, a minute?) since a match-wide one seems impractical and hard to specifically tailor to each module Some scenarios are going to be a faceroll no matter how good a DM you are : Lets face it, you could be a 2300 elo cardhunter grandmaster but you're still going to get toasted in 1st round by a firestorm deck in kobold mines. In a lot of cases you're going against optimized decks, players know what cards you have and what works. Thats just the way the cookie crumbles, don't really have a good solution other than I don't think many players would check the DM box just for mindless farming runs. All in all I think implementing something like this would be very much in the spirit of a game based on old-school D&D. Imagine fighting an ogre in campaign that wasn't mindlessly wasting all its attacks against your nimbus'ed warrior, that sort of stuff would happen with something like this, and I for one would be happy for the challenge. So that's my suggestion. Feedback? Rants? Assorted Grumblings and/or Rumblings ?
What's in it for the 2nd player? And battles go a lot more difficult if there's someone with a brain instead of AI.
You can already do most of this with custom scenarios (and there the DM can choose which monsters to use and even draw a custom map) but neither player will get any loot.
Provided the 'buddy system' can be prevented, I think player who opt to play vs a human should get a percent advantage on loot upgrades.
