I just mentioned in another new suggestion thread the idea that we sometimes like showing each other our nifty stuff. $:^ ] Here's another suggestion based on the same mere-fun-factor principal. During CH battles, we see each other's character tokens and cards at a mere glance, and we pretty much need to. We can read each other's character names pretty swiftly, too, and this is normally helpful to keep track of everything. Also, we can read card origins (usually items) with a touch more effort (or super-tons-more effort on opponents' canceled step attacks without even a guarantee of seeing what the card was let alone the item it came from, ugh. Anyway). Some fun -- albeit completely unnecessary -- things we can see during battles: special player character costumes (foil, GM, Kee-Tenh, etc.) card rarities /1 /2 /3 /me1 /me2 /me3 Although I've never been a CCG/TCG player myself, I can see the allure of playing one's foil Pikachu* or Unhinged set Swamp** right on the table as just part of the deck. * My guess is Pikachu is a fairly common Pokémon TCG card. My guess is also that it's a little nifty to have a foil one, which I assume exist 'cause, y'know, marketing. ** Magic: The Gathering has a couple official parody sets -- which are awesome to read up on!! -- which are banned from normal competitive play, except the Basic Lands (such as the Swamp, my example above,) because they don't affect gameplay in any ridiculous manner. We can't, however, see item rarity during battle. I say, hey, why not, right? $:^ J The couple ways I propose to do this would utilize the middle info bar (under the illustration) and the colorization scheme you've set up, C U R E L. Sorry, no nifty illustrative mockup from me today. Some different possibilities: Colorize the card's originating item text. Keep the item text black, but add a glow effect (perhaps increasing from subtle to intense with each rarity increase) around it, something like what Aloyzo does for Flaxative and CT5's videos. heheh Keep the item text unchanged, but change the color of the little info bar background. Normal paper and green-tinted paper would probably work for C and U; purple and orange with metallic sheen would certainly give a "foil" look (much like the bronze-silver-gold qualities faintly convey and green-purple qualities pop with) for E and L; R I suppose might go either way for sheen (or amount thereof); or, perhaps R and E could get lesser sheens and L could get the real popping look. Spoiler: You roll a 1 on the Wild die. Complication! While typing this, I remembered I hadn't dealt with non-item origins yet. Perhaps these could get colorized as such: from the item that ultimately caused it to exist (could show any of C U R E L, e.g. Festering Guts show L when created by Cursed Radcannon and C when created by Medical Kit -- I'm now trying to imagine Lava terrain created by Laser Malfunction created by Push the Button); from the card that ultimately caused it to exist (could show any of C U R, e.g. Festering Guts show R when created by even a copy of Irradiation terrain from Radioactive Spray and C when created by Radiation Bolt); from the card that immediately caused it to exist (could show any of C U R, e.g. Lava terrain show R when from Meltdown from Laser Whip from Push The Button (because Laser Whip immediately created it) and C when from Meltdown from Laser Strike from Push The Button (because Laser Strike immediately created it)); always common; or, always as some special created-not-drawn signifier (which strictly speaking would also affect Racial Moves) although I don't have a good idea off the top of my head what this would be. Colorizing based on what created would probably become a nightmare, though, when you get things like reflected reactions going on. Either "always common" or "always as some special created-not-drawn signifier" would probably be simplest for both the developers and the players. Now, all I originally had in mind with this is that, wow, that could look cool in battle, seeing my opp's Epics and Legendaries highlighted, or my opp seeing mine -- or being a spectator or having spectators, all the same, and ppl just generally getting to enjoy everyone's collections more. Similarly, seeing just how many Commons my opp is beating the tar out of me with. $;^ D lol Just adds a little fun flair imo. However! While typing this up, I realized it could also have a bit of niche technical function, too: it'd really highlight at a glance what's going on in Peasant and Aristocrat battles, whether purely casual or moderated tournaments. Kinda neat tack-on effect there. All right, another long post out of the way. Regards, $:^ }
