I'm going through all the cards to try to rebalance them, and I'm reminded that some have names that imply similarities that don't actually exist. The implied rules: "Harness" is an Armor that boosts armor rolls. "Aura" is an Armor/Boost that boosts cards played, but is not Kept. "Shell" is an Armor/Boost that boosts cards played and is Kept. Name changes to fit these rules: Officer's Harness -> Officer's Insignia Quickness Aura -> Rushing Shell Horned Plates -> Frenzy Aura Frenzy Aura -> Impaling Aura Shimmering Aura -> Deflecting Armor Also, Heavy Armor should be Armor/Handicap instead of Armor/Boost. And all those Harnesses should probably be Armor/Boost. (I've only looked at armors so far.)
I like those suggestions but for Horned Plates - is renaming it to an existing name (but different card) a problem for people to understand? Frenzy Aura is the right name for it (+3 damage), but maybe "Horned Aura"? Just so someone who is used to Frenzy Aura being penetrating doesn't wonder why it changed?
Good Idea on naming consistency, Kalin. Changing a different item to an existing name is always touchy, so I recommend avoiding that if possible. And I have another niggling suggestion: Insignia is simply a badge of rank. The item pictured is obviously a harness, so I think calling it "Officer's Straps" or "Officer's Rigging" would differentiate the function, but still match the illustration.
Inspiring Armor, Rusty Armor, and Cloth Armor are all temporary. (They're not Shells - they don't provide a passive buff while they sit around) Holy Armor, Arrogant Armor, Ill-Fitting Armor and Heavy Armor are permanent. Your suggestion is also to call Shimmering Aura "Deflecting Armor" Should Armor vs. Mail be clarified? (Hide has 2 types both of which are Keep) So Holy Armor->Holy Mail?, Arrogant Armor->Arrogant Mail, Ill-Fitting Armor->Ill-Fitting Mail? Heavy Armor->Heavy Mail? (or Heavy Plates, like Grounding Plates?) And Shimmering Aura->"Deflecting Mail"? Or are they mixed up enough now so that people always check anyway?
Minor quip; if changes like these were to be made, the art of the cards in question should be kept in mind. Changing Horned Plates to something like "frenzy aura" would not match the art, and also change the nature of the hell mantis monster (since the horned plates in it's deck represent it being all spiky and dangerous, not po'd). A better solution to that one might be to decrease the damage and add "keep".
