So the last update had some bonuses to movement cards to try and make elves less unappealing. That's laudable, but changing a few cards that elves draw once in a while doesn't feel like it's going to do it for me. There are two problems with elves as I see it - one is that how far they can move doesn't matter nearly as much as how often they can move, so their racial benefit isn't really that substantial. The other is that the HP differences are fixed between classes, so a difference of eight HP between an elf and a dwarf might seem all right for a warrior but that's a pretty large amount for a wizard. A dwarf wizard has almost 50% more health than an elf. I have two possible suggestions to address this: The first is to introduce inherent racial abilities, which aren't related to equipment. Elves might get something like: in addition to the dash that they draw every round, elves also draw a shuffle at low levels and a walk at high levels. So they're getting two movement cards every round. Meanwhile dwarves could get something like a permanent reliable leather armor at low levels and a reliable mail at high levels which would not count towards their hand limit. Or instead of that they could get a cloth armor every round [or other armor which doesn't have keep] - this would allow for a strategy of overcoming their defenses just by hitting them a lot. And humans would have to get some ability which wasn't quite as good as the elves, but better than the dwarves. Doing it this way would emphasize the differences in the races, which would lead to greater variety and I think that's nice. Balancing this would be difficult though, and since we're already in beta maybe that's too big a change. I have a second suggestion which is much simpler - make the HP bonus a percentage instead of a fixed amount. Something like: dwarves always have ~30% more HP than equivalent elves, regardless of class. This would make elf wizards more viable, though it wouldn't do anything for elf warriors. Much easier to balance than my first suggestion.
I doubt they are still in the stage of the game where they are looking to rework whole systems just saying.
i dont think elves are as bad off as the op seems to think...ive almoste completed my elf only run of the campaign...and well...the reliability of always having a dash is amazing... for example it allows my warrior to easily use Heavy Armor...and even keep 2 of then in his hand...show me a dwarf that can do that... especially since steps dont ignore encumbrance anymore additionally elves have access to Slippery and Elvish Insight with the former being the best mobility card ive seen yet and the latter allowing you to not only get a lot of information about your enemy but also draw a card and drawing out any blocks that arent restricted to melee if you combine that with a lot of attacks at range 2 or higher youre extremely dangerous
