When the card Shifty Stab is used to move, if there are no enemy targets in range after the move, but a friendly party member is, the game will not allow the battle to progress until the attack portion of the Shifty Stab card is targeted on the party member. The usual "finish" button is not showing up to skip the damage portion of the card. While this is hilarious, it does not seem to be intentional.
It is intentional, actually. There's a thread about this here: http://www.cardhunter.com/forum/threads/cancelling-moves-thoughts-and-suggestions.1595/. Be sure to check that out and give some feedback, if you'd like to.
If being forced to attack your own party members is intentional, I suggest something in the card's description to warn of this before the item is purchased and equipped, let alone used. The whole move card thread you linked is another issue, though similar and I did comment there. It was not the move portion of the card that was causing damage though, it was the attack portion. There needs to be a "finish" option that allows the target to be chosen as "no target". Or, alternatively, some hilarious flavor text about stabbing your team mates because you ran out of Orcs.
This applies to all cards, but only step attacks seem to cause confusion. Once a card is played, the entire effect must be carried out if possible. You can't half play a card, but you can still set up conditions that make part of it fail.
I'd like to get rid of this. It's not intentional but it is a side-effect of the game rules (i.e. you can't normally play an attack card without choosing a valid target).
