Whats with the dice rolls? I get low rolls all the time and the monsters get 5s and 6s. I was just playing and my warrior used a chop twice, hit 2 enemies each time, the armor they had was 3+, they got it every time. my armor is 3+ as well, rolled a 2 and a 1.
It's human nature to try to find patterns where there aren't any. A couple of good rolls for AI and bad rolls for you mean absolutely nothing and it happens to everyone at some point. That's the whole point of randomness: random things happen, and sometimes these random things look like they are against you. A couple of weeks ago my multiplayer opponent failed parry roll 4 times in a row and lost the match because of that. That's a 1 in 2376 probability. I personally would have quit the game at that point. Crazy things happen sometimes.
Randomness favors everyone in the end and things usually end up even for both sides. I'm watching these rolls and they are not random. The computer regularly gets high rolls and I get regular low rolls. Just did another match, he had parry cards, rolled 5s and 6s, I had armors, rolled 1s and 2s. On somewhat the same topic as random; card draws. I have a lot of attack cards, but rarely draw them. Each match I do has at least one round where I didn't draw any attack cards. I lose because I have nothing to attack with more often then any other reason.
Statistically speaking, your sample size is way too small for it have any relevancy. What happened to you in this match or that, makes no difference. You would have to observe thousands of matches before we could draw any conclusions. It's human nature. We tend to notice when things go badly for us, and tend to ignore when something good happens. In other words if we are unlucky, it's because the system is flawed and working against us. If on the other hand we are lucky, that's just plain and simple luck, nothing more. Nobody in the history of gaming and internet has ever started a topic where he or she complains about how the system is flawed because he or she is too lucky. It's always the other way around. Related to this.. unless I'm not mistaken, computers use the clock to produce randomness, which is not true randomness, although it is close enough for Card Hunter. If someone wants something better, go to http://www.random.org/ where randomness is produced using atmospheric noise.
I disagree. Randomness is out to get me. I can feel its cold, spasmodic, irregular breath on the back of my neck. That being said, I've had hot streaks and cold streaks in this game. The cold streaks are more noticeable.
One thing I don't understand about the rolls, and perhaps I'm missing something, is why it "rolls" when we already know what the outcome is going to be given the colour of the die. Either simulate a roll of the die and don't change the colour until it's finished, or don't bother with the roll simulation.
I swear the random number generator is out to get me. I no longer even expect my armors to trigger. I've just accepted my fate - whichever warrior goes base to base with the monster will die sooner or later. Even on parries I can almost count on a one. My frustration level has gone back to normal now that I have just accepted my fate. Seriously, the worst I've seen was a warrior with 4 (!) armor cards out, and he managed to roll under the trigger for each card ... twice in a row.
I totally agree on TS...some weeks ago I posted the same. http://forums.cardhunter.com/threads/random-or-not-so-random.4357/
Sometimes the deck doesn't give you what you want, in this case, attack cards, but you need to make the best with what it does give you. I used to get mad when that happened to me and I'd get stuck with a block and 3 movement or something like that. It wasn't until I realized that the game was telling me to "get the heck out of dodge" that I mitigated the lows that those kind of hands can produce. So I run and hide until next turn. If I'm surrounded, then I move to where I'll get hit the least. If I'm totally surrounded I over extended and deserve the beating.
Simply put, they paid for the animation so they're probably gonna use what they paid for. But I agree. I'm always looking for the red-white result and not the actual number result.
People, people, it is certainly your perception. Consider the alternatives A)Blue Manchu has rigged the dice to screw you - The fine men and women who have worked on this game have demonstrated their honesty and thoughtfulness too many times to be such epic trolls. B) They bungled the Random Number Generator - Random Number Generators are so well understood and common in computer software that this doesn't hold any water. Blue Manchu is comprised of industry veterans and this ain't their first time at the rodeo.
@Pizza: Don't Occam's Razor me. I'm a firm believer in Murphy's Law and this game proves it over an over again.
I get lucky rolls too. My Wizard hitting mobs that have Missile Block twice in the same game, in a critical moment, killing the mobs that otherwise would have been a threat. I sigh in relief both times and did a silent thank you to Ormet. Do I get crap rolls? Of course I do. However, I find the randomness in this game much more balance and reasonable than other that rely on random number generator. With regards to animation, were there any card in effect that modify dice roll? like Leather Harness? I find that the animation of dice change usually relates to that kind of situation. End of days, I don't mind losing too much. I ponder tactics and general strategy to deal with the strength and exploit the weakness of the campaign mobs. I certainly don't think I am a good player so I feel most of the time I win is because of lucky draw and/or rolls.
O'Toole's Corollary on Murphy's Law: Murphy was an optimist. And all my armor activates for a Shredding Strike. Probably even the cards still in my deck.
