Earlier my wife was playing and I noticed the person she was battling was using a character skin not available in the shop (including paid-for costumes). Where do these costumes come from?
The only costumes not available for sale are the 2 beta exclusive ones (Samurai - Human Male Warrior, Egyptian Priestess, Human female), that were given to those testers that spent 20 (warrior) or 50 (both) bucks on pizza during that period.
I just discovered that the wiki main page has a section (under Help & Policies) named "Collector's Corner" with links to the skins and holiday items.
