Im not sure if this has been asked or not, but here it goes. Perhaps it is to soon for a real answer, but as most of you RPG players know, must games (video or real life) have some sort of editor. For example, you're a DM and want to create a whole new dungeon, with everything new! The dungeon itself, the monsters, the traps, the items, etc... Normally you would make use of the available stuff (like a DM Manual or something) but lets ignore that. What would you use? An editor. In the net there are editors for virtually everything you need, so basically my question is, will Card Hunter have an Editor(s)?And if so, what aspects of the game could be changed to the players will? Another Example: Blizzard's great fantasy RTS, Warcraft 3, as been kept alive until now mainly because of its awesome mod community and due to its highly versatile and customisable World Editor. See my point?
I have wondered that too. I think it would be really cool to have the option of playing custom made maps and adventures. This could be a whole new aspect to the game; we make maps and in doing so unlock content we can use on our future maps. You give us a list of achievements and reward us for accomplishing them. Things like, make 5 outdoor maps and receive access to indoor tiles. Get 10 or more 5 star ratings on any of your maps and gain access to the "Undead Lich" to use in our dungeons. Create a graveyard themed map and receive the "Turn Undead" card to use in your card pack. This would motivate us players to make maps and give us a potentially inexhaustible number of maps to play while we wait for official Blue Manchu content.
It's been discussed on another thread and we haven't had any feedback as yet. We had a brief flurry of discussion about balancing etc.
I know I say this about a lot of feature requests, but this is on our list of things to consider when we get time. I think user created content is a great addition to any game. But it is a lot of work to do right. We've had some experience with that when we made Freedom Force which had a fairly extensive set of tools for people to create their own characters and missions. But even that wasn't really enough - certainly not at the level of games like Neverwinter Nights or Little Big Planet. And things get even more complicated when you are talking about a server based game like Card Hunter. In reality, this is one of those things that we'll look at once we've finished and released the core game. If it does well enough, we'll have the time (and money) to look at extending into areas like this. Don't want to throw cold water on the idea but also don't want to promise stuff we simply can't deliver. By the way, take a look on Google for "Freedom Force mods". Still some pretty cool stuff floating around out there.
I looked at the above and thought "or Spore?" I know this isn't what you're discussing, but I'm getting a mental picture of Spore-style content distribution. Imagine, if you will . . . a world where one DM sets up a campaign in Chicago, and the wandering monsters appear in a campaign in Boston! A gelatinous cube unleashed in Paris eats your mule in Brisbane! An army of undead that conquered the greatest adventurers Dublin has to offer goes on a rampage across the servers of Germany! We should all be grateful this will not happen.
Well . . . yes. I've spent the last couple of days trying to figure anything to say other than "well . . . yes."
