My thoughts on quests

Now that i have beaten a big amount of the quests in the game currently i figured i should give my thoughts on them in a very general way. So this may not apply to one or two of the adventures but most of the time its how i feel about them.

    Only equip drawback items

This quest is my favorit in a game sense as it brings a big challenge that can be reduced by getting better items with less severe drawbacks. But its also very interesting how it teaches you to adapt even more to the draw and makes planing your deck all that more important.

    No party death

This quest is my absolute favorit as it brings the importance on not losing a party member and to me my party members are not expendable. They are my favored champions there to bring my justice to the monsters and it gives me the feeling of importance for each of them which i kinda miss from D&D.

    All same race

This one is fine and I'm sure some people will love it but i personally find it to be a filler but a very good one at that. nothing impressive but absolutely nothing wrong with it as it does its thing simple and effective.

    All same class

This quest is reminicent of the all same race one but it does a much better job at being very interesting since it changes strategy a lot more. Having to use only warriors on a map that restricts movement, only wizards on a map where you can't utilize range and so on. Even when it doesn't give you a class that is limited by the map it still gives it a interesting twist.

    All same class and race

I personally find these to be too restrictive making you level up far too many heroes to the point where i don't care about them any more. I might have names for one of every class race combo but in the end if i gear up for this it will be. aeyvyn, elfwiz2, and elfwiz3 who take it on after i can be bothered to level 2 and 3. This makes me dislike the core of the concept but in the end its a mild annoyance about it ruining my immersion not a massive flaw for most people i guess.

Level reduced by 10 ( currenlty reduces the level of the adventure by this amunt not your heroes but i like that more. )

I absolutely love how hard these are while still being fair. They bring back memories of engaging that enemy you should wait a few levels for or pushing ahead in a game to save time fighting very strong enemys using massive amounts of skill and getting past them by the skin of your teeth. This one is a bit rough around the edges on levels before you get at least one talent point but still awesome.

    Only one hp per hero

While this quest sounds like it will be fun in a intensely challenging way all it really does is give you a unfair difficullty. This leads to a lot of frustration and a very luck based and almost completely skill devoid quest outside of deckbuilding. Since you die in one hit outside of being insanely lucky the only way to beat them is to do "clever use of game mechanic" things like extending nimbus smoke bomb cowers and the like and these are still luck based and very very boring. This one i really think should be removed from the game in favor of something similar but less 1 hit kills you something like half health or no hp recovery between maps.

These are all just my opinions and I'm sure the devs would love to hear your opinions as well as your thoughts on my opinions. Thanks a lot for reading this far and have a nice awesome day!

As much as I enjoy doing all challenges I'm truly falling asleep when it comes to one hp challenge - triple wizard, smoke bomb and... after few hours I'll be done with any level without any display of skill - it's all about luck and it's not funny experience.

I like all other quests - just like you said - same race feels like a filler but it does its job nicely, same class - strategy elements, really good 'lesson' for all players.

When it comes to suggestions... no decent ideas as of now.

    Edit: 2 characters challenge?

I'll just repeat my support of a "no health recovery between maps" quest. And it did get Jon's attention when people brought it up before:
Me, I'm thinking I might try Beneath the Frozen Earth on 1 HP sometime as I've practiced it like crazy (looking for 1-clear-talent weapons, as mentioned elsewhere). I don't expect it to be fun.

One thing that makes it harder is that your primary need is "prevent all damage" cards, and thus the only way around an Impenetrable Nimbus strategy (or the others listed) is a bunch of Blocks; but Blocks are almost exclusive to Shields. You have one on Divine Armor (Guardian Angel), a couple on Boots (Hard To Pin Down and Jump Back, both of which mess up your range), and a few on skills.

I'm gonna try that, sure, and see how viable it is; but similar avoid-all-damage strategies would also be important in a "no health recovery" quest, while avoiding the frustration.

That's what I'm mainly saying about it putting your hp at 1 means its very luck based and you need massive luck or you have to bend the rules to your favor by making it so they cant hurt you either way its not fun and that is my main concern.

Obviously i was proven wrong on them being impossible as i have beaten almost every single one and haven't even had to use nimbus extend yet.

Yeah, and I can see this sort of thing being a "keep this quest" message to Blue Manchu, unfortunately. They need to have something people can call "the most difficult challenge," something that folks who sit and play for days upon days can proudly say they accomplished.

I'd still rather play for fun, and have more total quests to do with more interesting demands on the player.

Lets be honest if we want it to be that wow that's just silly how you actually managed to do that quest it should come with much better reward and/or be exempt from buying retries. Also might be that after smoke is fixed so next build that extend nimbus is the only way to go and that would be so much worse than it already is.

It only leads to more and more frustration - level 50 and 1 hp? Sounds pretty 'challenging' - just need 8 smokes in hand, win win situation

Hmm, yes: there's a difference between the "drop 10 levels"-type quest and the "stay at 1 HP no matter what else happens in the whole of Card Hunter"-type. Which is to say, only one of those will scale logically over the vast swath of playtime as you go up to level 50.

Another really annoying fact: treasures from quests... really?! Just finished Wyvern lair quest and got one rare and two treasure items. Treasure items should not drop from quests - not only I can do the quest ONCE (fully) but I also get two treasure items worth nothing? :(

    Sir Knight Sir-ulean Dragon

Uh . . . worth nothing? A bunch of people complain about how "you don't get gold from playing," and Treasure items satisfy that urge by giving you twice as much gold as regular ones do.

If the increased rarity (from doing a quest) got me a Legendary Treasure, I'd be quite happy.

One was common, one was rare - altough it makes me so sad to see treasures in the final chest.

Quests are what make the soul of the game. It is what gives you purpose besides just lvling thats cool and all but the journey is half the story. Once you cap out what then. Quests and rewards keep you coming back for more

I don't fully agree but thats my own personal opinion and i can definitely see what your saying. That said i want them in the game except possibly the 1 hp quest which i really don't think is a good quest because of how you have to beat it currently.

Maybe change the "Only 1 HP" in "Start at 1 HP" could improve the fairness (and playability) of the quest?
Otherwise your choice of items it's mandatory.

There are a few suggestions to give it the whole survival feel as well as some people who think it should just be replace by another form of stuff like only 1 hero and such. Some of the suggestions i have heard prior to yours are, No health recovery and/or resurrection of heroes between maps, starting with half or a quarter hp, all attacks deal double damage to players. To mention a few but i think the general consensus is that it should either stay and be one of those "Wow he really managed that?". Kind of things or get replaced by something a lot less one shot your dead find a way to cheat this and/or get lucky multiple maps in a row.

I personally did pretty much every single one using smoke bomb with only 2-3 being legitimately done using enough armors some tactics and/or some luck. Some of them like the green dragon are with the current cards impossible if you don't somehow never get hit even once as neither armor nor blocks will protect you enough.

I like this thread and look forward to hearing more about what quests you find too easy/too hard/too annoying.

I'm also interested as to whether most people find Treasure rewards from quests annoying or whether you like them.

The only thing I dislike about Treasure rewards is a fact that you can get up to 2 treasure items and honestly I feel like I would not like to see treasure items from the (black) final chest as getting 10-20g instead of items as Treasure final reward.

I'm fine with finding treasures as long as the guaranteed higher rarity item isn't a treasure that's the only thing that bothered me. Are you looking for a too easy too hard too annoying in general or for every map specifically?

Let's start with generalities and then move on to specific quests.
