Hey folks, I need to tell you all a short story. I'm trying to beat the caverns of chaos, and I reach stage 6. I face mercenaries, security cameras, and trolls. Okay. I've never beaten trolls... but I have ideas and I can do this. The battle lasts with me killing the mercs, holing up in a corner of the map, purifying the regen off the trolls, and hitting them. My men are being clobbered to death, it looks like my rolls are disappointing as usual, and I manage to kill a troll. I end up with one 5 hp monk-like priest, a 30hp troll, and two security cameras. In the most careful battle I've ever played, I stock up on shields, purifiers, run cards, and hits to methodically protect myself and avoid the cameras while whittling down the troll's hp (At one point, I had nothing but a Jump! card to fend from the trolls wrath). With the troll at 6hp and with all but one of its cards exposed, I congratulate myself for my greatest victory and apply a 7 life steal attack with my 5 hp monk. But wait. The hidden card turns. It's thick hide armor. The roll succeeds, and the troll reaches 1 hp. It attacks with a mighty bludgeon. My armor role fails. My monk is killed... I'm in shock right now.
letting youself assume you might have won before its actilually done is a dangerous mindset, but didnt sound like you let your guard down. nothing done wrong when you played to the Best of your options.
