If you use the movement from lunging strike, you can't cancel the attack. Not sure what happens if nobody is in range for it, but if only allies are, you are forced to attack one of them!
Yup, lots of threads stating this. If there's no one in range, it acts like a normal move card. If one of your allies is in range and no enemies, that ally gets hit.
Here are a few of the larger threads which touch on this topic: http://www.cardhunter.com/forum/threads/cancelling-moves-thoughts-and-suggestions.1595/ http://www.cardhunter.com/forum/threads/lunging-thrust-forces-you-to-attack-allies.774/ Here is a quote from Jon on this exact issue: http://www.cardhunter.com/forum/threads/step-cards.496/#post-7502 Although, in short Lunging Strike is a hyrbird card and is considered both an attack and a move card. This results in its selection being irrevocable (as per move card commitment rules), and thus if only an ally is within range after movement, you must attack them (as per attack card commitment rules).
