What options in the home menu of card hunter affect the strain on my laptop? I have recently (I dont know why) been having issues with card hunter because sometimes when I play it, my laptop overheats and shuts down altogether - and this and you may have guessed is quite annoying. I have lowered the Quality to Low and turned Lighting Off but its still not enough. Do any of the other options affect it?
Try a different browser or Steam version? Mute the music and ambient noise? Play in a smaller window?
Buy a new laptop? If it overheats and shuts down just from Card Hunter, your laptop has to be very old/malfunctioning/full of dust and dirt.
If the laptop did fine before, some physical cleaning cant hurt. My next step would be to eliminate any software hickups with a fresh OS install. Maybe a parallel installed lubuntu? Does wonders for older machines and i got CH to run. If a fresh operating system cant get rid of the shutdowns, then you can kiss the laptop goodbye.
Don't use full screen mode, for whatever reason I've always found that uses considerably more resources.
Cleaning the dust out of an old PC is a good idea. If you cannot get to the fans easily.... "If you’ve had your laptop for a year or two, it may be full of dust. Dust clogs fans, vents, and heat sinks, preventing your PC from cooling down properly. You can remove a good amount of this dust, even if you can’t open your laptop." -- http://www.howtogeek.com/194479/how-to-clean-the-dust-out-of-your-laptop/
What browser would you suggest? And what do you mean smaller window - as in use half the monitor? ~~~ I have cleaned out the dust to the best of my ability but installing a new OS would be my final step.
My Dell ultrabook works harder playing CH via Chrome than it does via Firefox. I haven't looked into exactly why because it can handle both comfortably.
If it's laptop issue chances are, sooner or later other applications will start falling apart too, up to the operating system. I would run something like mprime/prime95 in torture mode to test if your computer can still compute properly.
I decided to take the whole laptop apart and take the dust out that way - now it operates at 30C less! Thanks for the suggestions anyway!
