How many tries did it take you to beat it your first time?

I remember I beat this quest on another account, but that was a long time ago, and I can't remember what I used, and had vastly different items. After trying it again, I am stuck on the final battle. Any tips?

I've always thought that the last map is easiest of the 4! I always clean up other critters first, then outmaneuver the king and slowly kill him. There is a spot on the right hand side wall where he can't reach you at all, so a single survivor can take him out eventually (or sooner, if he is a fire mage).

The thing is, Whorl has great luck with his card draws against me. I had a round where he drew 3 punishing beams and put all my characters on red health. I had another attempt where I killed whorl on the first round, but lost because the little guys trapped my characters and allowed the king to finish them.

Whenever I kill the bats, whorl kills me, and when I kill whorl, the bats and king kill me. I even had a round where I killed the bats and whorl, but the king drew so many pathfinding cards that he caught me and killed me.

I don't know why, but whorl always goes for my wizard and kills him quickly.

Neither the king nor the storges will move onto lava terrain, if you bulk up on lava you can use it as a wall to keep them at bay assuming you position right. If you kill Whorl then you have no fear of ranged attacks and you can use the lava to wall off your characters and slowly kill everyone else.

Here is a rare only build I've had decent success with for troll tyrant. Very few changes per map. I used an elf and dwarf mainly because they are my lv 20 warriors. Any race would be fine though.

    Uimacir
    Level 20 Elf Warrior

    Kurivarr
    Level 20 Dwarf Warrior

    Girtbrog
    Level 20 Dwarf Priest

    Strategy:

Basically you want to keep your squad close together and have each other back to back or all backs against the wall. There are a crazy amount of parries and nimbus(nimbi?) so you should not easily lose a character. Specific map suggestions:

Round one - Charge top rust monster and take him out ASAP. Quickly reload if you don't get a good draw for this rush. Dispatch flames while nimbused/parry defender holds off other two. Should be able to dispatch remaining rust monsters at that point.

Round two - Keep backs to each other and focus on one of the trolls. Your parries and nimbus should make your opponents quickly waste cards and generate attacks for you to eliminate at least one troll in a round or two. Charge 2nd troll or rust monsters, whichever direction provides the best opportunity to stay in tight formation or surround for a quick kill.

Round three - Often the most challenging. My suggestion is to move to one of the rooms and put the priest in the corner with both warriors adjacent with backs to the wall. If you can get 2x reliable mail on a warrior you can pretty much ignore the stourge attacks on that guy. Bonus if you can put Martyrs blessing on him. Take 1-2 damage - Draw a card. This is all about throwing a nimbus on the most vulnerable warrior(whoever did not draw a parry or two or armor) and then just bashing away at the bloodsuckers as they come. Sometimes you can't get into position before being surrounded which is about the only time I've had to reload this one

Round four - Work your way to the lower right room taking out stourges and staying out of LOS of Whorl until he comes into melee range. Save 2 good attacks, get behind him and kill before he does some serious damage to your team. Backs against the wall and start dealing with the stourges . Work your way back and forth between the choke point when the troll approaches. Never leave a party member without a move where the troll can get you if possible. Overall the easiest as a single nimbus warrior will draw most of the attacks from Whorl or the troll giving you time to position or take out a strige or two.

If you have a decent collection I'd recommend going dual MF weapons(olaf's) on priest and shielding tokens. Otherwise Duality mace is good. Touch of death is great against all enemies in this adventure. Also, if you have a decent selection of zero token reliable mail / officer harness items for at least one warrior I would equip it. 2x Reliable mail plus an officer harness or two makes you pretty much immune to Stourges and whorl. Most of the battles are lengthy so you have time to draw and keep the armor.

Yesterday I almost needed 2 revives on my first Fairy run, so I tried something else for the second. This is slow and ugly but got me through without defeats.

The Axe turned out to be remarkably useful; I finished off a couple Sturges with Unholy Frenzy. :)

I did end up with too many moves, but I need those Flanks to get priority for next round's Nimbuses. If you can't afford those Volcano items, anything that burns will work too.

  7. Happenstance

    Happenstance Thaumaturge

Vampire Aqquack (because they duck a lot)

    Rough setup:
    Kurt Straker
    Level 20 Dwarf Priest

    Jesse Hooker
    Level 20 Dwarf Priest

    Bagpipes Bellow
    Level 19 Dwarf Warrior

Level 1: I swap out one of theDemon's Golden Blades for Huetotl's Firebrand on each vamp. Anyone who draws duck attacks the Rust Creatures. If you can duck a corrosive touch, then you can completely neutralise the Rust Creatures for a turn by attacking them with it. Then the heavy hitters come in to play.

Level 2: Swap out for as many Fiery Stabs as you can fit. Some purges on the vamps are great. Swap the boots out for movement, like Rhood's Boots all round.

Level 3: Swap boots back for armour and HFs back for DGBs to get those chops. This is the easiest level by far.

Level 4: Similar to L2, apart from Whorl's occasional freakish draws.
