I've read that thief class was in development. I wanna now if the max number os characters will increase when it's done or it will remain three, cause I sell the exceeding items - commons and unc. without thinking 2 times - but I'm starting to have excess on rarer stuff, so I'm a bit unsure about what to do...
In my opinion it's unlikely that even if some time down the line another character class is added that it would increase your party number. That is to say, even if you can play with a thief, you'd still only take 3 characters into each battle. In no way can I speak officially on this, but it remains the most likely expected future.
I agree with this. 4 party members in Campaign mode are, in my humble opinion, very much unlikely out of question: that would require a serious re-balancing of all existing content, which would be a massive undertaking. The same goes for the main PvP format. The game is designed with 3 party members in mind, upping that number would be much more work than simply changing a variable number. Now, I don't see 4v4 PvP battles entirely out of question as a future novelty-mode, but let's say I'm not exactly holding my breath. TL;DR; Don't panic about hoarding nonsensical amounts of loot just yet. Chances for a larger party size are most likely very slim.
I suspect more item slots per character (at higher levels) is much more likely than more characters per party. But go ahead and hoard if it makes you feel good!
Even though party size most likely wont change, the slot composition of the new class may still change the max number of items you should hoard. Even then, the items you most likely going to sell the surplus are going to be common/uncommon and will be gotten again when you play anyway. Missing one or two isn't a big deal. I cant see a new class added without coming with a big expansion, at least bigger than AoTA was. There will have to be enough new items to fill the slot for the new class (which must me high enough for item choice of the new slots to rival that of the old slots), while at the same time brings more items for the previous classes (to increase replayablity). New adventures at all level range needed to be added so player can play something new to earn the items for the new class. So that means we have to wait quite a while.
I would be in favor of missions where you have a guest character in your team. A module where a character fights alongside your party for the sake of the story would be great.
If they add a fourth character slot for parties and force me to horde even more items before modifying the inventory system and layout, I'm going to go absolutely postal (in a completely mature way).
