I did it for past month or so. Since the moment I discovered FS will be nerfed. You can only blame yourself that you didn't do the same...
(I never want to see another Kobold btw.)

Eh, it isn't that big of a deal. Just tried farming again and it takes only a little bit longer if you combine it with Volcano spam.

I do think someone did some math and determined that farming took only 10% with the FS change.

I do wish Firestorm was changed to range 6, since it is easier for me to gauge that range (due to most spells having range 6), but besides that I think the Firestorm change is fine.

Really? If you're just talking the kobold mines it seems to take about 2 to 3 times as long, depending upon your build. It is still faster than melee if you can draw your opponents into range fairly quickly. I used to farm heavily for items with FS on levels 10-17, and most of those are now pretty much impossible.
My other main method was a frenzy priest and step warriors. The priest part still works well. :p

Hm ok. I might be misremembering. There was a thread about it. I think the guy might have been completing low level missions, not farming kobolds?

There was a thread about FSing Kobolds, yes, but everyone must time their own times. I believe it will be a lot more than 10% slower, but I haven't tried yet.

The time to farm the Kobold diamond mines has multiplied, I just tried it.

I've run levels 1-6 with both strong and weak firestorm builds, so they're all possible to do. Most maps take more than twice as long as before if you have a good draw rate. You will often be in melee range for a round or two, which is a bad thing for wizards. Range 6 on FS would help a little on the length of the wait on some maps.
The Wizard's Workshop, Highway Robbery, Dungeon of the Lizard Priest, and Slub Gut's Sanctum weren't much faster with FS than other builds even before the nerf, so just because using FS is possible doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Are you running 3 Dwarf FS Wizards or 2 Dwarf FS Wizards and 1 Dwarf (or Human) Priest or what?

And yeah, I think changing FS to range 6 would be a lot more useful -- it always feels like I'm 1 range short.

I've run 2W 1P with max gear (16 FS each), and both 2W 1P and 3W with 1 SOTI & 1 Greenspark Staff, single FS items, and generic robes. Those with a priest have a higher survival rate.

I farmed the 5-6-7 levels yesterday and the level 8 Lord Stafford's Treasure with the same FS I had, and it didn't take me much longer than before. I expect it to be different for higher level adventure though (I used FS for everything but the level 18 modules before the changes).

I spawned this thread from a discussion in one of the announcement threads. Let's discuss viability of fire storm farming (or if there's now a new better alternative), due to the effects of the balance patch.

From what I've seen, FS is still viable on small maps, where you can wait a couple of turns for opposing characters to close in. On larger maps, especially those with victory squares, you may have to go chase down someone after you've FS-spammed the other characters.

Farming the first Kobold maps is a little slower for me, since I have to wait between 10 and 30 seconds before spamming. I can't imagine that Volcano spam is better than this delayed FS, because in my experience the AI has a terrible habit of holding onto hidden moves and passing sporadically.

The trick with Volcano spam is to not move afterwards if you don't have to. If they use a hidden move use another Volcano. If they pass then take the damage. Knowing the order of how terrain attachments go off helps too. Replacing Firestorms also lets you use Hover for cycling.

possibly referring to this thread :

As I noted there it wasn't a comprehensive test, just a comparison of times between 2 runs of the same 3 modules, pre and post balance, but I think the time for me personally increased maybe 15-20% give or take. I abhor the repetitiveness of the complete 1st 2 mission, then restart style of farming though its effectiveness is unquestionable, therefore the results were based on completion of each of the modules. Also my std kobold farm deck already included some volcano and comprised 2 wiz/1 priest, for what its worth.

In my posts above I was only thinking about the actual combat time. My pre-nerf combat durations were frequently half the screen load times or less, so the overall time increase would be lower. As stated elsewhere, speed farming is all about chests per hour. I topped out at about 60 per hour on my (slow) pc, so I guess another speed test is in order. Probably after I get used to the short range and stop popping FS off too early or slowing down to count squares. :p

I tried to farm some Kobolds the new way and well, it's a lot slower. Overall time I got 1.7 times slower but the battle itself takes a LOT more longer than before, simply loading and adventure switching times remained the same. So if before it was 1000 gold per hour than now it's less than 600 gold per hour. And it requires more thinking and planning so probably gets us tired faster. My average time was 48s/battle.

Welp, I guess that means there's no longer a long tail SP end-game, even if it's just grinding for gold. Sad times. :(

Yeah, well, I don't think 1 epic is worth an hour of my time unless it's some very good one :p But I have 90% of epics anyway.
