One of the best things about working at Blue Manchu is being able to work again with some of the best people I've been luckily enough to work with. Farbs is one of them. For those of you who don't know him, he's a coder and a designer on Card Hunter. He somehow finds the time to make his own games. Some of you will have heard of his most famous game, Captain Forever: http://www.captainforever.com/captainforever.php This week Farbs made a browser version of his first game, the inspirational Rom Check Fail. I thought I'd share it. If you haven't played it, play it now: http://www.farbs.org/romcheckfail.php Still not interested? Consider this: Farbs briefly made headlines by coming up with one of the funniest and best ways of quitting a job ever: http://kotaku.com/5231111/how-to-quit-your-game-development-job Respect to Farbs!
Played it, I think Farbs was likely either high on some form of hallucinogen or recovering from a fever dream when he came up with that concept.
This game lives up to expectations. Which is to say: this game is truly amazing and maddeningly fun. It's surprisingly difficult to stop playing: since I can hardly even see how many lives I have left much of the time, I can't measure how long I've been playing or when to stop. I can't tell myself "oh, I'll just play a little more since I'm so close to dying" or "might as well quit, since I'm beating this so easily and won't lose anytime soon." This is a weird experience.
