I'm pretty excited about all these great "Old School" inspired fantasy games that have come out lately. Dragon's Crown, Skyrim, and of course Card Hunter. Pen and paper and deck building games have of course kept the spirit of fantasy games alive but I'm glad to see their reappearance in mainstream games. "Tolkien inspired" wizards and dragons are the best. Hopefully someone will make a great MMO someday soon with a traditional aesthetic. If anyone knows any good game recommendations other than Card Hunter, please post. Also keep playing Card Hunter!
Couldn't agree more. It seems like the "retro" trend has finally started to venture into the realm of tabletop games and fantasy themes. I usually get upset when the mainstream latches onto things I hold near and dear to my heart, because that usually results in watered down iterations of what once was great before on its own. But I'm loving that, in this case, it gave a small company like Blue Manchu the chance to do something truly weird and original like Card Hunter. I hope we get to see more games like this! I would also love to hear any recommendations for new fantasy inspired games if anyone has any!
I'm a huge fan of Dungeon World. And the Lords of Waterdeep board game is quite excellent. There's another RPG I am highly interested in called Dungeon Crawl Classics, but I really don't know anyone in the area now to play with :/
