Does failing battles make subsequent attempts easier?

Couldn't find a similar topic, hope I didn't miss it.

I've noticed, subjectively, that after getting my butt kicked twice on an adventure, the third attempt seems to be substantially easier. My day job is as a games user researcher for EA, so I know how badly individual bias can skew data.

My latest example was Cliffs of the Wyverns, a level 16 adventure. On the third attempt, the enemies seemed to attack substantially less aggressively, sat in lava squares, and more notably, they weren't receiving armour cards. I kept the same gear setup each battle, and didn't substantially alter my tactics. I don't believe my prior knowledge helped me much.

I've noticed this previously, but as I said, I usually dismiss stuff like this as user perception bias. Have devs stated this occurs, or is there any substantial body of circumstantial evidence indicating it does?

I would dismiss it as well. Likely just the randomization giving you a break.
