I just had a game where at the end of the turn me and my opponent both had 4 stars. I passed first and because he had a 7hp guy standing in lava and i had a 2 burning damage card on my 2 hp guy i figured it would either result in a draw or that i would win as i passed first. But alas, my low hp guy got damaged first and he won before he got damaged from lava. Please make all start of turn damage cards resolve before assigning a winner... Or at least make it so the first passing player gets damaged last. This way i got punished for passing first, which usually gives you a bonus as you get to act first.
http://www.cardhunter.com/how-to-play-card-hunter/#zeeoop Attachments come before terrain effects. You passing first had nothing to do with it. It's an arbitrary rule and a draw would seem more fair, but for some reason draws aren't in the game.
Ah didn't know that. Really think they should let all start of round effects resolve before declaring a winner though. The current rule is just confusing and punishes players who either haven't read the rules or more likely don't remember such a minor detail.
Honestly? I don't see why players shouldn't be punished for not reading the rules. Learning the rules is kind of a key part of doing anything. I can't start driving my car on the sidewalk and avoid getting massive fines by saying I'm being punished for not learning the rules.
That's a terrible analogy. Laws serve a completely different purpose to the rules of a computer game. Furthermore, most modern computer games do not require players to read any rules. Modern games are typically learnt just by playing. Ideally, the rules of this game or any other game should be intuitive enough to simply learn by playing. However, for the cases being discussed in this thread, I'm not certain it would be more intuitive for the game to end in a draw; but it would at least save players from having to work out the order that damage cards get resolved between turns. I think the main downside is that the game would have to be changed to allow for draws (ie. tied matches), whereas the current rules there is always a winner. There are other reasons why it might be nice to allow draws though. [edit]Sorry to Wozarg. I wrote most of this post in an edit after you'd already responded to my short version...
Perhaps an addition of an "order of defense" list to the "how to play" page? Kalin had clued me into it.
