Counterspell vs Forgetfulness

Counterspell (Uncommon) is range 8 and discards the two oldest magic cards, plus it has a react to block spells on 3+.
Forgetfulness (Rare) is range 6 and the target discards up to two magic cards. Does that mean it's their choice or is it random?

If it's their choice then this card is just flat out worse than counterspell. If it's random then very rarely it will be better than counterspell (for its main function) but usually be equivalent or worse. Counterspell's secondary effect can be nice, but sometimes you really don't want it to work, so i'll call that a wash.

What am i missing about Forgetfulness that makes it a good card and worthy of something like Aork's_Vial_Of_Memories?

Well, rarity =/ quality when it comes to both items and cards. Both cards have a silver quality rating which seems about right to me. That said, I think I'd almost always rather have Counterspell.

From what I've seen, card rarity is complete nonsense and should be ignored. What's important is the rarity (and level) of the item it's on. Example: Stab and Penetrating Stab.

  4. Card power is the color/foil on the card´s name, which dictates how strong the card is. Card rarity is how difficult it is to find, and its use is twofold: Rare cards tend to be either complex, or they are powerful in different scales of balance. For example, Able Bludgeon and Trained Bludgeon are rather subpar cards, and they are rare, why? Because they show up in Tokenless items, and for those items, they are really good.

It´s not complete nonsense, but it IS slightly misleading. Why Forgetfulness appears on high quality items being a bad card is probably the same reason Savage Curse and Unholy Power do; they are worse versions of more able cards (Unholy Wellspring and Accelerated Thought), but they stack with their counterparts. Forgetfulness comes with the advantage that it cannot be baited (You might consider this a bad thing, but being hit by a Forgetfulness is much more painful than having your spell blocked)
