I just had a situation when GE wouldn't push of the trip that was attached before by radioactive goo. The character was full of drawbacks attached by my goo at the start of the round, but the genetic engineering of my opponent only added 2 boosts, leaving the character tripped in the middle of the goo.
I think I know what could of happened here, genetic engineering sometimes gives you the same boost twice in a row which the game then immediately discards before attaching the third boost. This happened to me and I captured the battle log for it below Spoiler BATTLE LOG: Scenario=Monkey Jungle,Room=AWMO (DupleX),RoomID=196219,Msg=The active player is now DupleX BATTLE LOG: Player=DupleX,Scenario=Monkey Jungle,Room=AWMO (DupleX),RoomID=196219,Event=PlayAction,Action=Genetic Engineering,Instigator=Dottie,Targets=Karl BATTLE LOG: Scenario=Monkey Jungle,Room=AWMO (DupleX),RoomID=196219,Msg=Attaching Adapted to Slashing to Karl StaticCardRenderer::checkTextArea Adapted to Slashing Thumbnail Title is too wide. Well i think people expect to be able to totally overwrite all previous attachements. So the randomization should skip duplicates. @Scarponi, I reported this because my opponent and I didnt approve of the very bad outcome of the situation, its not like consulting that glossary of yours would kept me from thematising an issue.
You reported it as a bug which I take as believing it's not working as intended, or not knowing why it played out the way it did. If that was the case then consulting my glossary would have explained what happened and why. Hence my response. If you knew what happened, and you don't think it should happen that way, then by all means, thematise away. But, then you should probably mark your thread as a suggestion or feedback and not a bug report.
Same. And can we, merely players, truely claim to know what the mighty devs intended? No. But we both have our assumptions, as i see.
I don't think there are any assumptions in Scarponi's FAQ, at least not in purpose. He might have some inside info from the closed EttSC testing that Genetic Engineering should work that way.
We will find out soon enough. Even more assumptions, now about scarponis degree of insight, won't move this topic forward. No doubt his side project describes what the card currently does in detail.
This is something Jon and I talked about during EttSC development, and we decided not to avoid duplicates. In the words of CT5, "That's random!"
People still try to find some structure in all that randomness, so consider throwing them a rope here and there.
Yes, actually. Because precisely this: I'm sorry if my responding with information I had, on the topic you broached, bothers you.
I suppose we're in suggestion territory at this point, but I agree that the card would be at least slightly more useful if it guaranteed that you'll have 3 brand new attachments on your character after using it. The current behavior is unintuitive and potentially leads to disappointing and confusing scenarios like the one @Robauke found himself in.
Well your uncommented selfquoting came across as if i violated some obligation to consult your thread. But maybe you were just fishing for appreciation after all. So i'm sorry if the felt hostility was just in my mind.
I have put a lot of hours into that thread for the sake of people being able to answer their own questions, and so it's nice when people take advantage of it; however, I also am fully aware that no player should be under any obligation (even in my mind) to consult it. That said, if you ask a question I've already typed out the answer to, I hope you'll understand if I don't spend my time to re-type an answer that I've already spent time providing. So I'm likely to self-quote or just throw you a link, and I may even use the tongue-in-cheek moniker "faq-man," or a derivative, to amuse myself while I try to help, rather than getting annoyed that I've already spent time providing an answer previously. No need to even respond with appreciation, but responding with negativity doesn't seem necessary either.
