The Chess Madness league map has nowhere to put dead characters. They just disappear (and will take a temporarily attached Spiked/Barbed Mail card with them).
Ha! That's probably because when I was tooling around with the board editor all those years ago, not ever imagining that this would actually appear in the game, we hadn't invented dead character markers yet. Thanks for the tip, I'll log it as a bug.
