Blocking beneficial effects?

I was playing a multiplayer game (which ended up being against Melvin), and one of his characters played Dwarven Battle Cry, which lets every dwarf draw a card. I was hoping my dwarf might draw some movement, but instead, he blocked the card.

Is this intended behavior? If so, it's a pretty big drawback to Block Any cards versus more specific blocks. The versatility is nice, but I don't know if it's worth an opponent being able to knock out that block with a global beneficial card and deprive you of that card effect in the process.

Yes, when your opponent plays a card that targets your team, your block cards will trigger. The game doesn't distinguish between beneficial or negative effects from those cards.

Using these type of cards that target your opponents is a good way to draw out the "block any" cards.

If you don't want to have this problem, don't equip a shield that uses "block any" effects, for example you could equip the Parrying Buckler instead which only has cards that block melee attacks.
